Does anyone know of a cure for headlice? My 5 year old daughter has head lice. We have used Top Marks and several other brands of headlice shampoo. I have developed an alergy to any product specially produced, even one for sensitive skin. All I can do is comb them out. The trouble is my hair is ever so thin now, as combing pulls out lots of hair.

Any advice would be welcome. :jester:

You mean to say.........

Even when you comb them out.....it still come back??

Then that means.....either you or your daughter still have it.

I suggest making sure that both of you start wearing hair nets. Even if your daughter is completely cured...there's always a possibility, that you can still pass this on to her.

The cycle is just going to continue. (If you know what, I mean?)

You went to the doctor, right?? can they help you??

I am so sorry to hear that! My son had head lice on 2 different occasions - I know how you feel. For starters you have to treat your house too. Everything should be vacuumed. Or sprayed with the spray they sell. Next all dolls, stuffed animals should be bagged for at least 2 weeks. Throw out or boil, or bag all hairbrushes, ponies, etc. Wash and dry ANY clothing that might have been in contact with lice. Don't forget to treat your car/ daughter's carseat. Bedding has to be washed and dryed. Lice can live for several days without food and can "hideout" on a favorite toy, etc.
To treat the lice on your heads try olive oil. Saturate the head/ hair shaft with it. Wear a tight shower cap for 8 hours, this will smother them. Then begin the painstaking process of making sure you comb them all out. The olive oil really helps with this. It will not kill eggs, so make sure you comb them all out!
If these measures fail, there are very strong prescription meds out there available from your pediatrican. GOOD LUCK!:)

Hi,
I recently read about Neem helping with scabies and lice. You can buy neem oil and add it to your lotion and shampoo and conditioner or you can buy neem soap, lotion, shampoo, and conditioner and see how that works. If you do a google search for neem and lice you will find somemore info.
Most health food stores will carry neem oil or the products. And, you can use them even when you are not infested as they are very good for hair and skin in general.
Best wishes.

I am sorry that you are going through this. My kids are grown now but I do have experience with this. The shampoo is not enough. Make sure that you use an egg remover as well. You really have to "nit pick". I took my kids on the back porch to do this. The sunshine makes it very easy to see them. Really keep on it...do it several times.

I recommed you use tea tree shampoo and conditioner on both you and your child's hair, it keeps lice away. Hope this helps :)

I just found out that some kid at my childs camp had lice on Friday and now they think my daughter has it. I literally have a fear of those buggers. I itch everytime I think of them. I just ordered an electronic comb to get the nits out and I also saw a colored spray that lets you see the nits. I also wanted to check here to see what else I can do. I will get some tea Tree oil. I used to use it for acne. It works great for that. the smell should kill them if nothing else.
Best wishes to all of you. This is the worst thing ever!!!

My 5 year old daughter had lice about 2 weeks ago. The OTC stuff did not work. Someone told me about smothering them with real mayo by coating the hair, cover with a tight shower cap and leave on for 2 hours. Rinse out hair to see if any dead bugs come out. Shampoo with plain regular shampoo, no conditioner. Rinse out shampoo. Apply vineagar and comb with the egg remover comb or by hand.

This is all natural stuff and so far, it has worked. If I was worried, this was someting that I could repeat at any time and it made her hair so shiney and silkey.

I have also found out the tea tree oil mixed in shampoo will chase them away and keep them away. I used it for the 1st time last night as a prevention as there are still problems in her school.

Time will tell.

I put the Tea Tree oil in her shampoo and conditioner. I also dabbed some on the nape of her neck and behind her ears. The smell is not great but no bugs. Thanks for all of your replies.
