Does anyone know.. How riding a bike helps get in shape and lose some weight and tone up.?? Does it even help. For instance I am 5'5" and I am 145 pounds. I Want to shed a few pounds and then tone. I rode a bike 9 miles today and plan on doing 10 miles on Tuesday. Does this even help? Am I wasting my time? Most of what I need to lose is in my legs, Thighs, Hips, and butt.

Any info would be greatfully appreciated.

At the least it's a good cardio work-out. Also it will build some (leg) muscle and improve stamina. You can burn fat if you're not just leisurely rolling around, pick a low gear and keep yourself peddling always. As for toning up, that needs to be done in the gym with weights. Ideally, do the biking and some lifting.

This summer i lost 40lbs doing a combination of Bike and Weight Lifting. I stationary biked for about an hour a day Monday through Thursday, and on Fridays and Saturdays (not every fri/sat), i hit the trails for about 2hrs of good trail riding.

riding a bike is great. I dont ride mt. bikes and stuff i ride bmx the freestyle type of riding. It keeps the fat off of me. I'm 5'9 140lbs and i guess thats because i ride everyday along with lifting 3 times a week. I also have a very high metabolisim but yeah ride a bike, i think sitting down and peadling down a road would be boring so i would go Mt. biking and stand up alot. Also get a big fat seat so your dick doesn't fall asleep i heard that could lead to some SERIOUS problems. I ride because its fun and at the same time i concider that my cadiovascular workout.
