Hi im 16 and i have hashimotos thyroid disease. i've been having the symptoms of diabetes. ive been eating constantly, even at school, ill take 2 snacks and eat them right when i get to school because i get hungry. i have been thirsty but not drinking very much i dont know why, i just dont drink very much, but i have been drinking water more lately..if i do drink alot then i do go the bathroom alot. my eyes have trouble focusing when im trying to read things..i dont kno if that is a symptom..and also ive read that if you have hashimotos autoimmune thyroid disease, that there is a good chance that you will have diabetes, it also runs in my family..considering i got thyroid disease and ulnar neuropthy from my grandmother, i wouldnt doubt it if i had diabetes...

just wondering if those symptoms sound about right.
thanks.

Yes. The symptoms you are having are consistent with diabetes, including the blurred vision.

You are also correct that persons with Hashimoto's thyroiditis have a higher incidence of diabetes than the general population. It also puts you at higher risk for several other autoimmune disorders.

Your family history of diabetes also places you in a higher-risk stratum.

Softball19,
Since you do have Hashimoto's, I'm assuming you must have a doctor who follows you for that? I would give him/her a call, mention your symptoms, and set up an appointment to be tested for diabetes.

Meanwhile, when you do have those snacks, try to keep them low-carb. Vegetables, cheese, even fruit is better than cookies, crackers, breads and sweets. Peanut butter on celery is a great snack, but make sure it's all-natural peanut butter (no extra sugar). At least these things won't send your blood sugar soaring through the roof, assuming that it IS a blood sugar problem.
