Zocor caused me to feel like I was swaying when walking, sometimes couldn't feel the connection of my feet to the ground, had to look down or hold on when walking, felt like someone was pushing down on my head. I didn't think the symptoms I was experiencing were caused by the Zocor since the only side effects I had read about were muscle pain. I was to the point where I could hardly leave the house. Since the symptoms appeared slowly, I didn't think it was the zocor.

Went to a neurologist and got a very expensive MRI which showed nothing. My internist said that he's seen some very strange side effects from zocor and advised my to stop. Well - after a day or two I was myself again. Anyone else with these symptoms? My cholesterol numbers are awful, but I'm afraid to try another statin.

Yes, those symptoms are real, and definitely could be from the Zocor. Cholesterol is in low supply in the cerebellum portion of the brian. Statins have been shown to cross the blood brain barrier. The cerebellum controls motion, balance, etc. In some people the cerebellum can be effected more than others. The cerebellum is highly sensitive to medications. The cerebellum is the portion of the brain that is effected when one is drunk. Therfore the problem with your balance. My mother has brain damage (to the cerebellum) form first Lipitor, then Zocor, then Zetia.

That was one of my many side effects and my sister had that stumbeling effect too, only she took 3 pretty bad falls. I was on Lipitor, she was on another statin.

I've been taking Zocor for about a year now with zero side effects. No muscle aches, no dizziness, memory problems (if anything I am better at remembering names lately), nothing, nada. In fact I ran a personal best time of 3:45 in the marathon in January, at age 54. Shooting for that or less in Boston in 2008.

Problems from statins can start anywhere from 1-7 years after the start of a statin of lipid lowering medication. It depends when something vital in you body has been depleted or is only available in quantities too low to cause the body to function.

I guess I'm home free then because I've taken Lipitor for 9 years with no problems.
My marathons, however, get run only in my dreams.;) :D :D Forty-five minutes on an elliptical is about my limit.
