Im new and this is my first time to post. my mother was diagnosed colon cancer last Sept. 2006 after her sigmoid polyp was removed. After 4 mos. or last Jan. 2007, there was a small polyp again in the stalk where the first polyp was removed, biopsy result: adenomatous. Our doctor felt relieved upon the result but adviced that my mother still has to have a resection and chemotherapy after the surgery since in the histopath result, there was a positive invasion of tumor cells. what do you mean by that? What this result in the first polyp also means? re: WELL DIFFERENTIATED ADENOCARCINOMA IN A BACKGROUND OF TUBULOVILLOUS ADENOMA, COLONIC POLP.
My mother does't know that she has a cancer. I talked our doctor not to say the bad news and so I was the one who always have a contact with the doctor. but she (our doctor) doesn't want us to delay the surgry and chemotherapy since it was already diagnos in sept 2006, five months had already passed. The CEA was less than 1. negative chest pa, negative ultrasound in the liver and kidney. How fast a colon cancer progress from this stage? Can we still wait for another 4 months to have a resection and chemotherapy? Surgery and chemotherapy here is very expensive, we are afraid we could not afford the follow up treatments after the resection, we need to have that 4 months to seek financial support.
thank you very much. I hope we can be enlighten by your words and experiences.

Hi,

Welcome. I am sorry of your mom's diagnosis. Please tell your mom - I'm not sure how the doctors can not tell her... I would not delay treatment, if your doctor recommends starting now. Try to find someone at the hospital that can help you make financial arrangements. I know it is so difficult...

Good luck and take care,
Cats

I agree with cats, I think your mother would want to know she has cancer, even though it is scary. You will not be able to hide it from her forever and it is better she knows what she is dealing with. You are being a loving, protective daughter and that is wonderful but you cannot protect her forever. I would agree that surgery and treatment should start now, especially if the doctor has told you that. Do you have social workers over there, who can advise on payment for treatment? Or some other agency who can help. This is alot for you to take on alone and I hope you have other family support to help you deal with it all.

Love,
