How are people rewarding themselves? Are you putting money aside to treat yourself to something special?
Week 3, I plan on having a massage :)

After one month, my husband took me out to a steak dinner. After 3 months, we went out and had a delicious Mexican dinner. At six months, I went out and bought me 4 new tops and 3 pair of slacks. My doctor suggested that I put the money in a jar each day that I would have spent on cigarettes and when I got enough to go on a cruise. He said he had a patient that took two cruises a year doing that!! Well...'cuse my English....ain't no way I would ever get my husband to agree to a cruise or to fly on a plane!! So guess I'll have to be content to go shopping!! Yeehaw!

I've been rewarding myself with sweet treats. Not sure whether that's a good thing. Before I quit smoking, I hardley ate treats. I never craved it. Now, I'm craving it like crazy. I do treat myself out to lunch a little more. I figure from the money I'm saving from not smoking, it can go to more lunches or dinners out.
I'm really curious, too, what others use as rewards...

Thanks Traveller!! I own the stock!! But I can't afford the purse - :) - I think I'm going to plan a cruise to Alaska for next June. Although, I think I promised my husband that if he quit for a year, he could buy any boat he wants to, so I might be in trouble here....:jester:

Hi Deb,
Now you are going to think this is pretty funny. I decided I'd reward myself by doing a few things altogether different. Things I could never really do as a smoker in a my "previous life".
I rented a room one Saturday night not too far from home. Got one of those big "Non-Smoking" suites for a real bargain rate. Stayed up late and watched TV. Got up late the next morning. Then took my self out to a fancy all-you-can-eat-or-drink champagne brunch the next day.
Last Saturday, I joined a cooking class. It lasted four hours. I learned a bunch of wonderful recipes and got a taste of everything made. The chef was Italian and truly outstanding. All the food was real healthy too. I had a blast!!!
I know, I know, not your standard fair, but I have to tell you that I never once thought about smoking while engaged in these activities. They were all so different.

Hey Kevin - that's not funny what you did, that's awesome!!! What a great idea and reward for yourself! Can you whip us up some yummy food and we'll be over to try out your new recipes? We'll have the non-smoking table too, BTW. See, that's great - doing something you never would do before, because you didn't have the time cuz you were smokin'!! I plan on hitting the gym more - I wouldn't do it before, because I was in such a hurry to get home to my Marlboro Man - and once I was home, well then I just didn't feel like it. "Maybe tomorrow, or right after the holidays I'll get back to the gym....yeah, right." Never happened. Now I will have the time for MEEEEEEEEEEEE!!
I have been quit for 3 Days, 41 minutes and 6 seconds (3 days). I have saved $4.54 by not smoking 30 cigarettes. I have saved 2 hours and 30 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 2/23/2007 7:00 PM :D

Wow, I'm loving everyone's rewards! I just can't believe the money I've saved since I've stopped smoking. It's wonderful. I love the tastes of sweets! I've been craving peanut butter cookies since I stopped smoking...yummy!
Good job everyone and keep it up!

I'm loving reading how people are treating themselves.
Kevin - I think that is a great idea. I have found myself suddenly free to do things that I wouldn't have done before I quit because I was worried about not being able to smoke....I am really enjoying, and trying to take advantage of that freedom!
I have scheduled my massage for my 3 week mark!
This past weekend I rented a hotel room so I could take a bath :) We don't have a tub at home, and I miss my bath time - so relaxing!
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK EVERYONE!

Rewards must be the most important positive thing any nico-addict can do.
Mine have include:-
1. Allowing myself to be thoroughly lazy if I felt like it.
2. Had my teeth whitened.:blob_fire
3. Had my bikini line waxed:dizzy: (it certainly took my mind off smoking)
4. Regular retail therapy.(Walking around the shops is great exersize too:)
5. Twice daily low cal hot chocolate drink. 40 cals and a real confort drink. Don't know if you guys have this in the US but HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
6. Exersize i.e. cycling and walking. Afterwards you feels relaxed and it makes you feel generally better.
7. Sugar free sweets in moderation
8. Lots of warm relaxing perfumed baths
There must be more than 8 brilliant treats. I am relying on you lot to add to the list.

I hadn't really thought of rewards seriously but last week I decided that since I'll be saving time (not smoking) and always feel rushed/stressed, I am going to take time for myself. I've always been interested in tarot cards and jump atthe chance to have a reading. Coincidentally, as I was searching Amazon for Allen Carr's book on quitting smoking, I accidentally ran across a book for beginners to read tarot so I bought it. Yesterday, my milestone, I bought the cards. I spent a good portion of the day doing the exercises and mock readings (on myself) and the funniest thing is that my recent past/recent future shows a 'struggle', 'mourning of a loss', 'uphill battle', etc. The overall theme and result is to stick with it, remember that you are not alone and you will be successful! Right now, making the point of taking some time every day for me is the biggest reward I could give myself. :D

Love your rewards list!
Paula:
Wonderful choice with the Tarots! I totally agree with taking time for yourself. Especially during this time of our "recovery"
My reward today was going out to lunch with my coworkers! I had a blast. It was great to hear the compliments of my 20 days of being smoke free.
Wailana - Free and Healing for Twenty Days, 13 Hours and 27 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 17 Hours, by avoiding the use of 206 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me $53.30.

True Brit - love your list - except for the bikini wax
Paula - good for you treating yourself to tarot cards, and what an interesting reading!
I am going to treat myself to a hand repair kit today - burts bees - comes with lotion, cuticle cream and gloves to wear.
I have also come up with a rewards system for the gym! If I end up going after work (much harder than at lunch) - I tell myself that I can sit in the hot tub or sauna after I work out. It has gotten me to the gym twice this week :)
GREAT JOB EVERYONE!

Mango: That hand repair kit sounds awesome. Never heard/seen one of them. Does have it anything for 'nail staining'? If not, in prep. for your home 'manicure', pick up some lemons---they help remove some of the nail staining.

Hi Paula,
It's from Burts Bees - I love their stuff. It doesn't have anything for staining, but I'll let you know how the other stuff works.

I'll have to keep an eye out of that. Re: lemons. 1/2 the lemon than swish your finger nails around in it (sort of like using that nail polish remover jar). I used to wear nail polish constantly and that too really does a job on your nails (staining). So I thought it may help with nicotine type staining as well.

Hi Paula,
I used my new hand care kit last night - I love it!
This morning I woke up early, and didn't waste my time smoking, so I painted my toe nails!
Are you getting snow in Boston?

Hey, very cool treat! And that's something you can 'reward' yourself with multiple times! That's a keeper!
We had snow but overnight/early this a.m. it turned to freezing rain and then to all rain. It's been absolutely pouring all day. My BF works outside---I told him to keep an eye out for the ark!
But tomorrow is supposed to be almost 50!
Keep up the great work and keep on rewarding yourself! Don't forget to try the lemons. Have a great w/e!
