Well this is my second day smoke free. I've been taking chantix for 2 1/2 weeks now and i finally don't have the cravings!!! Sometimes I feel that I want a cig but just because of the habit, not the craving. I do get naseau but only when I don't eat with it. And the dreaming is unbelievable. It feels like I dream all night.... I wonder if the side affects will go away the longer I take this?

Congrats Murray! Good for you! How are you feeling? I am taking Chantix but am only on Day 6 I think. My quit day is Friday. I am smoking 4 or 5 cigs a day now. Did you not make your quit day the end of the first set of pills? I'm just curious, because I'm not really feeling anything, but others have said when you start the 2nd pack of 1mg you will notice "something". Good luck to you and keep posting so we know how you're doing!

Murray,
Congratulations!! And Welcome!!
The literature that comes with the Chantix says that the side effects should go away after a short time. I didn't have the dreams as some people have. Kinda wished I did. I had nausea, indigestion, gas and constipation. They didn't go away for me until about 2 or 2 1/2 months. But they were never bad enough for me to quit taking it. Just bothersome!! How long have you smoked? I smoked for about 40 years. I had tried numerous smoking cessations programs without success. The Chantix worked for me.
Let us know how you are doing. There are some really good people here to help you.
Skimmer,
Are you getting excited?! Just think in a couple of days you will be on your way to being smoke free!!! Now if that's not exciting I don't know what is!!!
Good Luck!!!

Skimmer, thanks, No I didn't quit on my quit date. I cut down tremendously but once I started taking the 1 mg I noticed a big change. Wait it out till then, you won't believe what a difference it makes. Good luck

Wow - you are right, Murray! I AM starting to feel the effects of Chantix now, after my 1st blue bill. What a difference!! I'm now in a fog all day and I can't sleep all night!! I have moved my quit to Monday to get me thru the weekend. The cigs are tasting funny now, so maybe I'm getting closer.

Good for you, Skimmer!! I can't relate on the not sleeping all night. I'm actually very tired at night now. Not sure if it's from the chantix though. I'm noticing though that the longer I'm on it, the more my side effects are diminishing. Hopefully they will all go away soon. Keep up the good work

I haven't been able to sleep through the night for a good week now, and it's starting to catch up with me. I feel like I am so close to the edge. My dr. didn't want to prescribe me a sleep aide, but I called back today and left a message that I need something. I can't live like this.
I feel ok otherwise - fun dreams, no nausea...a little spacey, but that might be from lack of sleep.
Keep up the good work everyone!

murry,
The side effects are SUPPOSE to go away the longer you take it. I'm so happy it is working out that way for you. I wished it had for me. Congratulations on your quit!!
Deb,
Hopefully your Dr. will give you something to help you sleep. That's just one of the side effects from the Chantix and also from the nicotine withdrawal. So it's a double whammy for you. The longer you're quit, the less withdrawal symptoms you will have. It takes about 2 weeks for the withdrawals to go away. Just hang in there. It's gonna get better.

If you can't sleep try taking the 1st tab at 7 am and the 2nd no later than 4pm. It's what I do and even the dreams are insignificant.

Kaiser,
You can take chantix longer, just call your dr. and they will give you another RX.That's what I have heard, anyway.

Murray,
I will do just that, I think I will talk to my dr. and either cut pills in half, I heard I could do for the last week, or maybe stay on it longer.

Congrats Keiser!!!!!!!
I am on day 9, and have started to cut back to 1 mg/day. I am taking 1 pill in the morning only, because I NEED to get some sleep. The dr suggested I try this first before we try something else. They seem determined not to give me a sleep aide..... I don't really want to take another drug, but I hate being sleep deprived! I feel great otherwise!

Well, today is day 3 on taking 1 mg in morning, and it seems to be working. I still feel in control, but I actually slept until 4:30 this morning, and didn't wake up much before that. I feel more rested. I am a little weepy, but feeling really good about day 10!
I think I will keep this dose up until I am ready to wean myself off...and will cut back to .5 mg in the am.
I love not stinking (or worrying that I stink) like a cigarette!

Deb,
So glad you got some sleep. I know you feel better. Hopefully you will be able to do this until the end of your therapy. I hope so.

Thanks all! I feel much better now that I can sleep until 4:30 a.m.!
I have cut out caffine in the afternoons too. I am a wreck if I don't get sleep, and I know that would lessen my resolve more than cutting back on the meds. I feel so different this quit - I know in my heart that I mean it this time - I have no interest in smoking, ever again - I am turning 41 in May, and my plan is to make 41 the healthiest year I have had so far!
I plan on using the chantix for 2 months......will cut back the last week or so. Anyone know how long it takes to leave your body?
