Hi Girls, I am starting to work myself into a panic again.. I just got a message from a nurse at my reg. doc office about a PAP i had. I need to make an appointment to go over the results. She said if it was normal they would send a card and call and set up an appt if there was something wrong. WHAT COULD IT BE?? I am terrified of cancer!! I hate how they do this...leave you hanging while there at lunch! I have had this happen before and had to go for a colposcopy? sp? but all came back normal and I had three more PAPs done every three months and all came back normal. That was two years ago. We have been ttc for over two years and my b/w is supposidly normal. What could be wrong? I do have irregular cycles and do not ovulate so...Oh this kills me, the waiting. Also I am supposed to start Clomid 1st round today. So do I still take it? What time of day are you supposed to take it? Thanks sorry to freak...

I totally understand. I had the same thing happen to me. They called Friday afternoon and I had to wait all weekend.
My pap was abnormal so I had to go back for additional testing. It was no big deal and now I have to go back every 4 months for a pap. So far they have been normal ever since. It could just be slight irregular cells....this is light years away from cancer. I also have several friends that have had this happen.Try not to worry, I know it is hard.

i took my chlomid at dinner time because i figured it lessened the nasauss-ness side effects if i went to bed a few hours later. im not sure it matters? and if it does... well then i forgot to ask.

i had a coposcopy in 2000 and it was HPV but since then i have never had an abnormal pap. Im sure its not a big deal. dont stress too much (as hard as that sounds)

Oh, Puppy, I am so sorry. That is frustrating. A few years back I had some abnormal pap smears too. I had to go back every 3 months for a year. The first two were abnormal still so then they had me take that virus test (I forget what it's called but it tells you if you have the pre-cancer virus). It was negative and then my all pap smears since have been normal so I haven't had an issue in years. I think it's quite common to get some abnormal pap smears at some point in your life but usually it doesn't mean anything. I'm sure you'll find out all is well with you but until then I know it can be scary. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thank you so much Dynastar! Its so scary, Ive had so many fam members have cancer that I feel like im destined to get it at some point. My GGrandmonther died of supposidly rare adrenal cancer, a year later my grandmother died of another form of adrenal cancer, a year and 1/2 later my other grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer, had a masectomy and chemo, but it all clear today Thank God!, Also around the same time as all that went on ym grandfather also was diagnosed with prostate cancer, had treatment and is now clear as well. So I guess in my fam its a 50/50 survival rate. Its just another issue to think about on top of the IF stuff...Brutal!

But on a pos. note I have an appt tomorrow at 8:45 so atleast Ill know then if its something major or not... hopefully its just like you said a few abnormal cells. I wonder if it could be caused from the yeast infection I had 1 1/2 weeks prior to the PAP- maybe the treatment caused an interference?

Hi Puppy, I agree with the other posters. While I completely understand your concern, and I would probably worry too, I am sure it is not anything too serious. I also had an abnormal pap many years ago and had to go back every 3 months for a year. The rest were normal and have been ever since.

As for the current cycle, I would bet you can still continue. You might want to call your RE just to be sure, but I think it will work out okay. I am pretty sure you can take Clomid any time of day. My dr advised me to take it before bed so I would experience less of the side effects. But you could also take it at dinner like Aymie said if you are worried about being nauseous.

It sucks that dr's & nurses don't think about all the stress and worry those messages cause. I remember when I went for my HIV test, and the results came back, and the nurse left me a message that I needed to come in and see the dr to go over my results. I WAS TERRIFIED! I thought for sure I was positive, I was going to die, I almost didn't have the courage to go to the appt. And here, it was just that the dr herself has to give the results to the patient in person. WHY didn't somebody tell me that before I nearly worried myself to death!? Very frustrating...

I hope by the time this post reaches you that you have heard from your dr's office and can breathe a little easier. Hugs.

Aymie & Lori- Thank you guys , you all replied so quick I couldn't keep up! :D You guys are great! I feel better now knowing this happens often and its nothing...I hate how they leave those messages- Its like when theres something bad about to happen in a movie feeling! Ill give an update after the appt tomorrow!

Holly - Wow thats crazy about the HIV test! I did know that they would have you come in for nothing, thats crazy. Yes my nerves have been calmed once again by all you wonderful girls- theres always someone here who has prob been in the same situation before - that why I rush here evrytime they tell me something for interpretation! :) Thank you all!

Hi. I wouldn't worry too much. Like all the other posters, I have had an abnormal pap and my sister has too. I had to do a colposcopy and all my paps after that have been normal. I just had that slight appearance of abnormal cells. That is not cancer. They are precancer cells but they are removed through the colposcopy.

I would think that you could go ahead and take the Clomid b/c I don't think that it would interefere with anything about your cervix. I would ask RE just to be sure, b/c I understand, I worry about everything too. I especially worry about meds. I always took Clomid in the morning, don't really know why. I just always take any medication in the morning with breakfast. But, taking it at night would make sense to lessen side effects. Although, the side effects I felt, didn't have anything to do with what time of day I took it. I didn't really have any nausea, so that didn't matter. For me, if I took it at night, I would probably lie there and wonder if I was feeling any side effects. I am just weird like that, though.

Good luck to you.

I am so sorry!! I hate how they don't ever tell a person anything!! When I had my first pap many years ago the same thing happened to me. I was terrified. I went in and had to do additional tests and they all came back fine. I actually have always had abnormal paps and they just don't know why, everything else comes back fine. The thought of cancer is always the first thing I think of too! I finally had my first normal pap this year after a year of infertility meds....I know kind of crazy!! But I will surely be thinking of you, it is scary and I understand completely why you are concerned. HAng in there and let us know how it goes!

Hi Puppylove,

Boy do I HATE when they do that. They should be sure to get you on the phone rather than leave that kind of message or just tell you to call them and not say anything else. All these doc's office need to take a psychology course or two and learn how to talk to people. Ok sorry I am venting :)

I have had an abnormal pap before and to ease your mind you do not have cancer by any means. It could be that you have dysplasia which are abnormal cells in the cervix. Now if you had a colposcopy not that long ago that is great that it turned out ok. I had this issue for many years they would do pap one in a while they were abnormal, then did colpop and it was normal, until one day it showed dyplasia. Dysplasia can turn into cancer but it takes MANY, MANY untreated years to get to that point that is why it is SO important to have a PAP EVERY YEAR--that goes for all you ladies b/c it will SAVE your life. Dysplasia is PRE-cancerious cells (emphaisis in PRE) not cancer, so if the results show that don't worry they have a procedure to remove those cells and will monitor you again like the last time. I know how frustrating this is I had this problem right in the middle of TTC and had to put thing on hold but you want to take care of yourself and rule out an ongoing issues. I hope all is fine like the last time and that you just have to cont being monitered more closely. Sometimes the dysplasia will resolve on its own w/o any intervention. Hope that helps if you have any question you would like me to answer just let me know.

Thank you Tabaya... Really its like they like to stress people out! Thats good to know Kathy, I just hope I don't have to have any more procedures the colpop last time was horrible- I was young and they didn't explain anything and just came at me with those alligator clip looking things...awful.

I'm so sorry, I would be freaking out too, but this happened to my SIL and she was just fine. I think usually these things turn out ok, they just have to look into it a little more to make sure it's nothing scary. Don't freak yourself out though too much though. Good luck and let us know what happens!!

Hey Puppy - I wanted to wish you well for your appointment tomorrow. I'm so sorry that you are having to deal with this added worry - I know you really don't need it. Let us know how things go, hun. Hopefully it will be something minor and the stress will have been all for nothing.

Hi Girls, I just got back from my appt...I dont even know what to say. The good new- I guess-She said all my cells were normal. The bad- She said I came up pos for HPV!?! I feel like someone shot me! I had an abnormal pap a few years ago, they did the colpop thing and they said everything was normal- nothing to worry about- which back then they had me terrified that I had HPV but then it came back fine. I just don't get it. She really has me freaked with this bc she didn't seem to know the answers to my questions! I asked her would this cause cancer and she said she doesn't know it "could" that there are 4 types that are known to cause cancer. So I said so which one do I have and she said theres like a million diffrent types and theres no way to be sure but I should get the Gaurdasil vax to prevent the the 4 types that cause cancer- even though I may have one already!? This kills me I feel so confused right now- and dirty:(...Anyone here diagnosed with HPV?? I feel like i need to know more! Also will it interefere with ttc can it cause infertility??

a lot of us have said we have had HPV over the years. Its really not a big deal. If left untreated it can be... but when caught youre fine. You can get it from a bathing suit even. You will get a coposcopy probably now and then will probably be fine going forward. I had it in 2000 and it has never come back. It does not mean you have cancer!!!! Its just that many times cervical cancer they know stems from untreated HPV.

dont stress... youll be totally fine

thank you aymie! I hear about it all the time but now that she said I have it I was just scared it would be the worst possible out come! I hope that it will resolve on it own! My SIL has herpes and me and her have talked about it and how she feels it ruined her life bc now she is afraid she will give it to someone else or that she wont be able to find someone who is willing to take the chance of getting it- since condoms are not 100% from herpes. When the dr said HPV can cause warts all I could think of was I was going to break out all of a sudden with them and my DH would have problems too. I know that I didn't get HPV from my DH bc he has only slept with one other girl and she was also a virgin. I however was with two people either of which could have given it to me because I was dumb and didn't protect myself when I was younger. Ateast men don't have symptoms, I couldn't live with myself if I gave DH something that he would have to deal with.

HPV doesnt work that way... you can get it with or without condoms. You can get it from just fooling around. Also if you get it treated now you probably will never have any symptoms. its really not a dirty disease and from what my doctor told me 80% of women have it and just never know. You can get it long before you have ever had sex.

its totally NOT like regular herpes, syph, gon, or any of those STDs. take your chlomid... take a deep breath... relax and enjoy your cycle. Also figure out if your ob wants you to get a coposcopy

Hi puppy,

The other post I sent you yesterday was about dysplasia which is HPV. The chances of cancer are not that much and it is really if left untreated that you need to be concerned. I did not have any warts but I did end up having the cells removed with a leep procedure just to be on the safe side which was a walk in the park compared to HSG. I did not have cancer just abnormal cells which is probably what you have. Just be sure to be monitered closely make SURE you go every 3 months for the next year and if ok every 6 months after that. I felt the same as you when I found out even dirty like how can I have this I'm a good girl with not many partners but this virus is on 80% of the population...it is VERY common and they just came out with a vaccine to prevent others from getting it. It's not like herpes...and I think it's very rare to get warts with HPV. So try not to worry about that. All I can stress is to you again and again is to be monitered closely if you feel this OBGYN is not able to answer you questions seek further tx with another one. good luck!! The name is really worse that it sounds!!! I promise!!!! I hae been there believe me!!

Thank you Kathy and Aymie! I dont think I have to have a col. this time bc my cells were all normal. I think I am doing pretty good on the clomid today is day 3, I only feel a little dizzy/ nausious like a 1/2 hr after taking it but then it goes away. Not too bad.. I just hope it does what it is supposed to do! I ahve an ultrasound shed. for next wed to see whats up, so its something to think about atleast!

Hi puppy!

I know people have already posted this but i want to reassure you more. I work with a young woman who just recently found out from a pap that she had cervical dysplasia and then that it was HPV. at first she went into hysterics, but then we sat and read about it online and even watched a show on tv about it, and we realized that many many women have it, it is not dirty, it is not cancer. you can get it from lots of places, not just sexually. she did have the colposcopy done, and her doc said come in again in 6 months to monitor it. that really made her feel better because at first your mind just goes crazy trying to figure out what it means and how to fix it. they also suggested the vaccine (only on women under 26) to her. i just wanted you to know you are not alone and that this seems to affect a lot of people, some just don't know it. so please keep getting checked. and in the meantime, good luck with ttc.
