They say that TMJ and allergy symptoms are very similar such as sinus pressure, ear problems, headaches, etc... but how does one know if it is TMJ or allergies or even a sinus infection? are headaches and sinus pressures a classic symptom of TMJ as it is with allergies?

A mild form of tmj might present the same symptoms as allergies but usually most sufferers experience other symptoms that differentiate it. Sinus pressure, ear aches and headaches can also be related to blood pressure, sinutitis, inner ear problems and I'm sure a host of other conditions as well. Usually ruling out other conditons and having tests (MRIs, tomograms, etc) done helps pinpoint what the problem is.

UGGGH! I HATE going through all of that! I want to just figure it out myself you know what I mean? I either end up on the road of a guessing game and medication when that may not even be the problem or I keep getting sent to numerous different places...so frustrating!

Why not try an OTC nightguard - most are pretty cheap - if it helps even just a bit then you know which road to go down. Sometimes though they can exacerbate the symptoms so take that into account as well. Do you get any relief with OTC nasal sprays, allergy meds or pain relievers for headaches? That can help you determine what may be the root cause as well - if they are due to tmj the OTC products will have very little impact.
