Hi ,

My DS is 3yrs 2months old now.He is almost potty trained.since after turning 2 1/2 he has been in his undies whole day and even in the night.
he has not done accidents much.
After he turned 3 me and my DH decided we won't remind him to go to bathroom so that he can go by himself whenever he wants to.but when we don't tell him he holds the pee like for 8hrs straight sometimes.I am worried that it might lead to something else.I make him to drink a lot of water but still no use.
should I be concerned?how should I make him to understand that he need not have to hold the pee and when it comes he has to go.

even poop he doesn't do accidents much but when he wants to poop he is very hesitant to tell and he keeps running from one corner to another till he thinks he can bear no more.

Any advice or expereince you might have please let me know.it really helps me.

Thanks

It sounds to me like he isn't ready to be the one totally in charge of when to go. I would go back to telling him when it's time.

My DD is also 3 and is doing similar things. I have never told her to go, she always asks, but she sometimes still will only go a few times a day. She still has poop accidents in her pull up, and that is why she still wears a pull up. She has a thing against going on her own...which is fine...I just know she isn't ready to take charge of that yet. I have another on the way...and am just praying that she will be complete by August! LOL!

I had the same problem - remind every chance you get. My son now has an enlarged bladder from holding his pee pee. He sees a urologist. They say it will correct itself if he empties his bladder frequently. For kids who hold it and hold it and don't go like they should long enough - it can cause kidney problems and things. Thank the Lord we haven't had that happen. Our doctor said to give him plenty of water ALWAYS on hand - this will make him have to go more and make him more willing to go. Good luck and God bless.
