I quit chewing tobacco and haven't had any in the last 11 days. I still feel terrible and can't sleep at all. I am starting to get really stressed out and think it's something more serious. I have no apetite at all which is really bugging me because most people say quitting makes them want to eat all the time. Do you think these things are normal after 11 days? Or should I be sleeping better by now?

Jeff, I didn't chew I smoked... I'd say it's still normal to not be sleeping well after 11 days, but the appetite... well I always have one so I can't judge that. :dizzy: :dizzy:
Good luck and stay quit, it's a great decision!! :blob_fire

Jeff,
You are still have withdrawals. It takes anywhere from one to three weeks for most of the symptoms to go away. Hang in there. It won't be long now. I'd say since you are not sleeping well, that is probable affecting your appitite as well.
Nicotine is a very powerful drug. People have more success quitting cocaine than tobacco products. Just keep telling yourself how well you are doing. Keep reminding yourself why you stopped in the first place.
Get rest when you can even if you can't sleep. It will help. Next week if you still aren't sleeping very much, go see your doctor. Tell him/her you need a mild sedative for a few weeks until you can get through this.
And by the way congratulations on being tobacco free for 11 days. Wonderful!!!!

I quit years ago and I still get the urge when I smell cigarette smoke. We learn to live with it..... literally. After just a few years you will have the healthy life expectancy of a non-tobacco addict. Consider that while you are counting sheep!
.
As for getting to sleep, there's nothing like a slightly tired body to help you nod off on schedule. So, get some daily exercise. If you can afford it, go to a health club and schedule several sessions a week with a trainer. A warm bath with a book or music might be a good idea too, and there's always the old standby, warm milk.... it really does work, you know.
.
Alcohol, forget it beyond, perhaps, a short glass of wine.
.
My wife's technique, weird as it may sound, is to lay quietly in bed and concentrate on keeping her eyes open! She says it gets harder and harder till she finally gives up and drifts off to dreamland.
.
Something will work for you too. Just relax and let it happen.

Hey Jeff. I'm on day 47 and doing great except for one side effect. First, I did have several early on. I lost my appetite and actually didn't like the taste of most foods for about a week or 10 days. Also had some flatulence and mild constipation. Have learned to live with that to achieve my goal. However, my big problem is sleep disruption. I can only sleep four or five hours at a stretch. It does seem that in the early morning hours, perhaps as the evening dose is wearing off, I can get back to sleep. Unfortunately, except for weekends that doesn't work well. BUT, I am determined to quit smoking so I am coping. I plan to start cutting out the evening dose tomorrow and see if that will both supress my cravings and also relieve my insomnia. I'll let you know. Hang in there.

Nosmo King - great name! Congrats on quitting!
I have been battling insomnia as well - only for 2 weeks, but it is taking its toll. I can get to sleep, but I wake up about 5 or 6 times through the night, and sometimes I don't get back to sleep. I didn't take my pm dose last night, and took a herbal sleep aide - I feel more rested this morning. I am going to cut back to 1/2 dose in morning and in evening to see if that helps.
Good luck to you!

Deb- I am having the same problem but I haven't done anything about it, I've only been taking Chantix for 12 days. I'm lucky to get about 2-3 hours of sleep without waking up and after the first time I wake up it's like every hour on the hour. My hubby's having the same problem but he isn't taking anything he just quit cold turkey. If I keeps up I'm going to try your suggesstion but I am just scared that if I do the urge to smoke will be stronger and I won't be able to resist. I am not willing to let that happen so I am probably going to just suffer. I know I am rattling on but that is how my mind has been working lately :dizzy:
Memaw and Traveller - thank you for the well wishes on the Chantix thread. I was going to reply to you both but it looks like it has been closed. I am another day smoke free (whoo hoo). I can't wait until I have been at it as long as you both. Have a Great Day!!

Hi Rhonda - keep up the good work!!!!!! and power to your husband for going cold turkey.
I'll let you know how it goes - cutting back on my meds. I need the sleep more than anything at this point in the game. I know it's only temporary, and I hope that in a week or so my body will be almost free from the physical withdrawls, but I have to be "sharp" at work, and I haven't been. My boss is understanding, but I have too much to do!
Let me know how you are doing!
