Hi,
I have been taking chantix and am very pleasantly surprised - along with my boyfriend - about how calm I feel. I seem to be in a better mood and have a better attitude. I am wondering if the pill causes the brain to create/release dopamine in small doses? I looked at the chantix website, and can't really tell..... Basically, I am wondering if I feel this way because my body isn't craving nicotine, or if the pill is causing this pleasant side-effect.
It's day 3, and I am so excited about how well this is going!

mangojunky,
I've been watching to boards to see if anyone else was going to mention this, I too have been in a better mood, my boyfriend says I gave up smoking and got my sense of humor back.... ha ha! I've been on chantix for 20 days and smoke free for 15 days. I am really surprised how easy going I have been, besides some "deal-a-ble" side effects this medication has been a breeze!
Not sure what the reason is, I'm just really glad that its not the opposite effect!!

Hi I am new here and will have to write my long sad story that sounds like everyone else's, but I am also an RN. From what I read about the pill, it blocks the nicotine's ability to affect certain receptors in your brain and stimulates the mesolimbic dopamine system. (Don't ask me to explain mesolimbic though!) So maybe that's why you feel pretty good?

Thanks Memaw. Where am I in my quit? Well, that's a good question. It was supposed to be yesterday, but I still had a few left in the pack, and felt I needed them, so today is supposed to be it. I am struggling though. The message boards have been a godsend and very, very encouraging.

Way to go!!!! tampaquit, mangojunky, murray11, maryber :bouncing: You all can do it!!!:blob_fire
I'm 51 days into my quit!!!! :bouncing: I'm a Chantix quitter too I took it for pretty close to 3 weeks before I could actually lay them down. I think it depends on the person!!
I still think about the cigs several times a day, but it is getting easier!!! No cravings whatsoever just the habit of wanting one first thing in the morning and after I eat I guess that comes with smoking for 20 yrs.

Gemi Lee, you are going to fill the last refill, right? It did cross my mind that, hey maybe I won't refill the second month, but I don't think that's a good idea. I think there is a certain amount of time that will need to pass before I'm confident I won't smoke. Keep in mind this is only day 2 for me. But for all you lurkers out there, and I was one until a couple of days ago, everything people are saying on these discussion boards helped me realize I might be able to quit as well. There are long term smokers, heavy smokers, light smokers, closet smokers all with different reactions to the medicine, but the end result has been they quit. And as other's have said on here, if I can quit, anybody can quit. I'd stand outside in a lightning storm to have a smoke praying if I got struck and killed they wouldn't mention "lady struck by lightning while smokeing a stupid cigarette".

I'm 51 days into my quit!!!! Wow, wow, wow!!! 51 days is awesome Gemi_Lee!! :blob_fire :blob_fire You will get over wanting that morning cig... after 9 months I still think about cigs, just for a split second but usually in the evening... some days I don't even think of them at all... and I smoked 2 packs a day for 25 years and quit and if I can quit, anyone can! Good luck and keep posting!!

51, no it must be 52 days now. Just brilliant. I am on 63 days and there are not too many long term users of Chantix here who are still on the med. We would all love to hear about all the benefits you have noticed and the difficulties encountered along the way.

Has anyone else wondered if whatever is in this pill also blocks caffeine? I am a lover of strong black espressos and I have noticed that they don't seem to make me "hyper" these days.
