Okay ya'll. I've just got some very bad news. My cousin's husband died of a heart attack at his home. They did an autopsy on him and he had advanced coronary heart disease. He was only 45 years old. He left 2 of the smartest, most beautiful children you could ever want. One is 16 the other is 12.
And you guessed it! He was a heavy smoker!!
I beg you, if you are lurking around this board and thinking about quitting smoking, I beg you to quit. These wonderful kids are too young to be without their dad. What about your family? How would they carry on without you? Please don't let them find out!!!
I'm asking for your thoughts and prayers. I will not be around here for a few days as I have to go out of town for the funeral. Ya'll keep on cheering each other on in my absence. I'll be checking on ya when I get back.

I'm so sorry to hear the bad news. It does re-affirm my decision. So sad when parents leave younger kids behind.
On Wed, I found out that 2 people I know have cancer - that was my big reason for quitting. I wondered what I would have felt like if I hadn't quit.

Memaw, so sorry to hear about your cousin's husband. That is so sad, especially given his age and that he had children. You and your family are in my thougths and prayers.
You're right---it's just antoher affirmation for quitting.

Welcome back MeMaw - we all missed you terribly, but the kept the board going just the same. Guess what!!
I'm almost 4 days quit!! I have been quit for 3 Days, 21 hours, 51 minutes and 48 seconds (3 days). I have saved $5.86 by not smoking 39 cigarettes. I have saved 3 hours and 15 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 2/23/2007 7:00 PMYEE HAW!!
And I feel GRRRRRRRREAT! Not having many side effects at all, and don't even really think of having a smoke - okay, maybe every now and then, but not really. I'm so glad I found this board, it's been a lifesaver for sure.

Oh Memaw, I am so sorry for the loss in your family. Your husbands cousin was only five years younger than I and that sure is scary. So very young...

I want to thank everyone who posted here. I know I don't really know ya'll, but it sure does seem like I do. Ya'll are very important to me. Each of you help to reaffirm my decision to never smoke again. My cousin and the kids are doing okay. It is just so very sad. My heart breaks for them. I keep thinking...he was the same age as my step-daughter. So sad...so sad.
