Today is the day. Well last night I had my last smoke. so it is almost 12 hours. I am ready to run to the store in my pajamas to buy some. I have really done well this week and read through EVERY single post in here for inspiration. I was smoking about a pack to a pack and a half a day, in the closet. Very few people know I smoke. By day 5 of Chantix, my new best friend, I was down to 6 for the day. And then as today got closer, I was in a panic thinking I needed to be a chimney because now I had permission to smoke, and after Q day, I couldn't have anymore. I soooo want to do this and be a non smoker. But this is going to be the longest day of my life.

Tampa,
Take a deep breath and gauge how you feel. Are you having physical or mental withdrawals? I found that on my quit day, it was mostly the habit I fought with. I kept myself busy and made it through the day. Drink LOTS of water, chew gum, and get some exercise if you can.
YOU CAN DO IT! Just think of how much better you'll feel after you have made it through day 1!!!

Tampa, Mango's advice is spot on: really think is it physical withdrawal or habit? Any tough times I had my first few days I could identify as totally 'habit'. You just need to retrain your mind---when a cigarette pops in your head, shoo it away "what?! why the hell would I want a cigarette". I know it sounds silly but it helps me (the power of your mind is amazing). I do still have lots of times when that doesn't work but then I try another one of my stockpile methods. You just need to stick with it and find what works for you. You'll get there---one day at a time!

Tampa, You can do it. I am taking Chantix and have quit. I used the web site, mytimetoquit.com and signed up and daily you will recieve activities to do and also e-mails every day on your progress, this really helped me out.

Thanks Mango, Paula and Kaiser. It is now just after 3 pm and I still haven't had one. I guess it is habit, because I don't have REALLY bad cravings. I have felt foggy this week. I just got home and was ready to march outside and figured I better get on this message board first for inspiration. I am on the Chantix site too. It is a little basic, but I made a concious decision to do everything I was supposed to do to make this work. I bought a lot of healthy food to have in the house. I mean how fat can I get with carrots?

Good luck to you and it gets much easier!! :p

Tampaquit - you can do it!! I know you can. Congrats on realizing the difference between the cravings and just "habit". Stay inside, don't go out there, the nicodemon is out there waiting for you!! Isn't it amazing how much time you have on your hands now that you're not out there smoking your day away? And you don't have to worry about people staring at you in your car, because you're 'SMOKING"! Keep up the good work!! And keep eating those carrots!! (I still haven't opened my bag, by the way).

Hi tampaquit, we Floridians really rock! :blob_fire Congratulations on quitting!! :bouncing: I live on the east central coast of Florida and you know, these anti-smokers are taking things a bit too far, some of our beaches are going non-smoking! But tomorrow when I go to the beach (hey you Northerner's  ) I won't have to run back to my car to smoke! I can just soak up those rays.
Good luck on your quit and come back often and let us know how you are doing.

Hey Traveller! I'm over here in East Central Florida too! Cocoa Beach? Woo Hoo! 80 degrees this weekend. Looking forward to a nice, warm weekend in the sun. Uh oh, that means I need to put sunblock on or I will be visiting the skin cancer message board!!

Damn Traveller! That sucks, skin cancer, ugh! I love the sun, but will put on sunscreen cuz I haven't been out much this year yet....we'll be boating by ski island, and not smoking much hopefully, gearing up for Monday's big quit day. Only had 2 so far today! My head is killing me though.....I feel like I'm on drugs - oh, wait, I am! Does that part get better? The foggy-brain syndrome?

Wooo hooo DAY Two! Mangojunky I made it through day one and through the night, and am now beginning day 2. I miss the first on in the morning, but I HAVE NOT SMOKED SINCE THURDAY. The only other time I stopped for 2 days was when I had a cold and just couldn't smoke. But I would go outside and try to light up like 10 times a day. The minute I could inhale, I was off and running and angry with myself. I can't believe how well the Chantix works. I mean, I will think about going out for a smoke, and then go wash my hands, or do the dishes, or something in the other direction and before I know it, I'm not thinking about it. I'm planning on cleaning my house today and trying to relax. And it was nice to not worry if I smelled like smoke yesterday. I knew I didn't because I hadn't had one. :)

Congrats!!! Keep up the great job!
I think the 1st few days are the hardest days. I am on day 6 today, my first Saturday, and unoccupied with work. I envy your warm weather! Here in Iowa we are under a blizzard warning, and have already recieved 1/2 an inch of ice with up to 12 inches of snow to come. I don't know how they do it on the east coast when they get 20 or more inches all the time.. But anyway, I am house bound... any suggestions anyone??

Way to go Tampaquit! Well, I have decided not to wait until Monday after all, my husband has quit, so I will too. I am now 14 hours smoke-free!! That first one in the morning is a toughie, but you just gotta stay busy doing other things and it passes. I hope we can keep it up. I am still weepy though, not sure what that is....it's gonna be a beautiful day!!!

Keystone206 Wow, 6 days is great! An entire week almost! Sorry about being housebound. Florida is great this time of year but summer is another story. Why don't you clean out a closet, or get rid of some clothes, reorganize your spices, re arrange your pantry. I don't know, those are things I am planning on doing to occupy my time.

Hey Keystone! Sorry about your weather up there, that sounds horrible. We're busy cleaning today to keep out minds off smoking, or not smoking as it is....I'm on day one, my first full day without a cig. Last night at 7:00 I smoked 1/2 a one, put it out, and said that's it, no more!! So, I'm only 15 hours smoke-free, but it feels great, all the same.
Like Tampa said, clean out the pantry, spices, fridge, clothes, linen closet - you never use those old towels anyway, the torn ones, with the frayed edges? Get rid of them!! And how many t-shirts do you need to "paint the house" with? They don't fit anymore, get rid of them. Well, those are things in my closets, that I'm getting rid of. Go rent a movie you've always wanted to watch.....
Enjoy your day as a non-smoker, you deserve it!!

Seriously, there were a few houses for sale on deep water, we need to check out. Doing good - had the urge a couple of times, and hubby was jonesing for one, after I told him I brought some with me "just in case', which I didn't. He's doing good - as am I. Tomorrow is another day - and Monday will be yet another......one day at a time....wasn't that a TV show??:p

Wow, you two are amazing. It has been over three days now and most all of the nicotine should have left your system by now. Things should gradually get easier for both of you. Best of luck to you both.
I really had to laugh about all the discussion around Florida. I must have at least a foot of snow in front of my house up here in Chicago. It has NOT stopped snowing in over three days. Trust me when I say it gets pretty old in a hurry.
Tampaquit: I loved your statement about cooking and cleaning. I spent the entire weekend doing the same thing. After I finished shoveling the snow... :p

Hi Kevin, yes cooked, cleaned, did loads of laundry just to keep busy. Sorry about the snow. I love the snow, but in Florida a cold winter day is when it gets in the 40's. How long are you quit?
Skimmer, had a rough day today. It is day 4, which I can't believe, but I just feel like I want to have one and that's it. But then again, I really don't want one as the people I was around today that did smoke REEKED! I don't know if that is spelled right, but it was overpowering. I don't know, I think it is just missing something that I did for a long time.

Hey Tampa Girl! Yes, that's all your missing is your best friend, that you've been friends with a long, long time. Well, I'm sorry, but it just wasn't working out with you two. You had to let him go. I know you miss him, we all do, but as time goes by, you'll realize what an *** he was, and how he was mistreating you. He's a real jerk, you know. :)
Just keep yourself busy - that's what I'm doing. I'm eating alot though - so I might gain 50 lbs, but so what!! Then I can go shopping for new clothes! Nah, really I don't want to gain weight but I did eat a big fat plate of spaghetti and some french bread with butter on it! MMMMMM - it was to die for - :D
Keep up the good work everyone! Hey - when does food start tasting better? Immediately or weeks or months later?

Skimmer Congrats on 3 days! Yeah, I think that may be part of my problem. It's like losing a friend, even so it is the devil. My friend and I went to the store and went outside, and drove in the car together, etc. It was really nice today, again, to not worry if I smelled.
Also, for everyone else here, thank you for writing about where you are and what's going on. First it takes my mind off of other things, and then I read other posts and realize, oh they had that too. Kevin wrote a nice piece about withdrawel and being down and maybe that's what it is.
I have been quit for 3 Days, 22 hours, 52 minutes and 21 seconds (3 days). I have saved $16.59 by not smoking 110 cigarettes. I have saved 9 hours and 10 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 2/22/2007 9:00 PM

tampaquit,
Congratulations!! 4 days is WONDERFUL!!
You need to quit thinking about "losing a friend". You know cigarettes were never really a friend. A friend would never treat you like that. A friend would never try to kill you. Think of it as gaining your health back. You're not losing a thing, your gaining a much better life.
Good Luck to you!!
Skimmer,
You know everyone kept asking me if food tasted better. Well...it always did taste good to me. I can't tell much difference. Maybe just a little. I've always been able to tell what was in a dish just by tasting it. Okay now, that spaghetti sure did sound good to me!! I'm dieting now and everything sounds good to me!! hehe.
