Have had a long year of pain and procedures...I am not convinced that they were all necessary, but one just led to the next!--I had an extration that didn't heal and needed to be stitched up 3 times and now the temp crown on the root canaled tooth next to it hurts --the gum is swollen and inflammed--I just hope it's the gum and not the tooth (already had an apico!) and a root canaled tooth on the bottom hurts too.(after a month)--my whole mouth feels inflammed and burning!--and the very sad part is that I had to just cancel my 3rd trip away..:( --anyone have a temp crown on a root canaled tooth that hurt???

WOW! Robyn--it does sound like a similar saga...it really sinks that these dentists can't be more sure of what's happening. one of the teeth that had an apico also still hurts but the one next to it was eventually pulled because of a suspicion of a crack...which when pulled didn't show but they said it could be "microscopic"...!!--who knows...and apparently I am not a good candidate for an implant which means lots of supporting crowns and a bridge that doesn't sound too comfy... and meanwhile a bottom tooth (others on top) that had a root canal still hurts and burns--they suspect "inflammation" which isn't resolving.
What I don't understand, is why not "redo" the root canal instead of apico..I hear about redos alot. And not necessarily meaning that they missed a canal but perhaps the fill is having a reaction..???????
Have you found anything that helps the pain or imflammation? I keep waiting for everything to calm down, but I may loose my mind first. This is really draining.I forget what pain free is.
Thanks

ibuprofen helps for dental pain im a qualified nurse and it sounds like you ahve been through hell and are still there. I am in uk so things may be different here but we would do a second root treatment but on the first we would tell you of the percentage of it failing. do they not have a curing light where they can see if a crack is there. this is an ultra violet light that can help to show some cracks up, but if I was you I would be looking for another dentist.!!

Hey there:wave: I'm kind of in the same situation...I've been taking 3 advil at a time and also taking arnica homeopathic tablets from the health food store in 30cc's. It does help. I'm really starting to get freaked out reading everyone's stuff because I think I am going the same road to hell. My jaw is hurting from presumed bite problems after getting fillings redone which supposedly changed my bite , a bridge replacement and 3 new crowns, and my left ear is also feeling full and hurts, not horribly but it's definitely not the same as before. My dentist can't see anything really on the x-rays but I have pain in my gums above the canaled teeth for the bridge but no swelling or hot cold pain. They weren't in pain before and had a bridge on them for 15 years but the dentist insisted on canaling them. If I were you I wouldn't jump into bridges or anything, look at my mess. I've got shooting burning pain in molars that weren't even messed with, the other side is starting to go off...I keep thinking what next....I had to get the bridge replaced as it was leaking but I wish I had never done it...I had no pain before anywhere. My dentist wanted an apico done but since we haven't received the x-ray from the dentist who did my canals, I am getting him to look at my bite and I am going to a chiropractor I know who does tmj massage inside the mouth. I'm hoping that will do something. I'll be reading here to see what happens with you. Good luck for us both!

fofomebunny...
You said the dentist insisted on canalling the teeth under the bridge and now you're in more pain than ever, right?
How can this be, when the nerve is supposed to be GONE? Plus, my ear never hurt like this before. It's interesting that yours does too.

Who knows....Any good dentists out there on this forum or what?
Hi Robyn,From what I have read, (nothing from my dentist of course ) the teeth have nerves that go all the way around them, they clean the roots out but the nerves around the boney area of the tooth still in the socket can still cause pain. It's diabolical is what it is !!!! Just when you think you're out of the woods...I'm trying to not panic but as the weeks stretch on and noone is taking the wheel besides me....I keep emailing my other dentist, she's all the way down in brasil for cripes sake ( hubby and I are from there ) and carnaval has been in full swing forever and noone will be in until next week for sure if that. Does you r ear feel worse towards the end of the day? My pain seems to be getting worse in my jaw and ear. I'm really freaking out. I had a lot of fillings replaced and I think my bite is so out of joint that it's messing with everything. I go down every year to brasil until we move back permanently but now am thinking maybe I should pack up and go fast, at least my dentist would fix all free of charge or minimally. Cripes. I am getting in to my chiro for that tmj massage. I had it done before and man I could use it right now. So what are you going to do now???

[QUOTE=robyn1977;2819934]fofo,
Yes, my ear hurts right now, and it's usually towards late afternoon and night. It's fleeting. It'll go a few days and just when I think it's better, it comes back. Has been for 2 months or more...It seems like referred pain from the tooth, but it could be jaw related, as I've found myself posturing my jaw differently because I don't want to bite into the tooth too much (even though it's out of occlusion, I still feel it.)
Hi Robyn, wow that's rough. I can't imagine having all that pain and having patience with the kids too. Hubbies usually know how to steer clear! I know what you mean about the jaw posturing, it is like a vicious cycle. I don't want my sensitive teeth to touch so I kind of tentatively put my jax in some other position and "test" gingerly if the teeth are going to hit. My sinuses are going crazy right now. At first I was thinking my gum pain was from a sinus infection since I get allergies and had been sick but my cheeks feel very sore like when you are smiling too much and the whole left side feels stuffed up and full of pressure and the left ear is like that too. I just emailed to get a record of all the fillings I had and maybe my dentist or someone can see if adding some filling material can bring my bite back in instead of filing what little I have left down. This is just crazy! Keep in touch and I'll post somewhere when I figure this mess out! GOOD LUCK!!!
