Hello my name is Robin and im 20 yrs old. I just found out yesterday I had asthma..Is it normal to just out of no where to get it. I went to my doctor for a check up and when when he checked my lungs i was weezing so he had me to do an asthma test. well he came back saying i had asthma.. Could it have been something else besides asthma. I do feel out of breathe alot but im also lazy and smoke. I know smoking and asthma does not go together but what else should i avoid also. he didnt really tell me anything but he did get me a alburterol sorry for the spelling to take.. It says to take it 4 times a day is that right or should i use it less. Im not really sure when i should use it because this is something new to me and never been around anyone who does have asthma.any advice would help.. thanks

With asthma your either born with it and have it all your life. Or there's always the small chance you'll be one of the lucky ones and just grow out of it.

To answer your question you CAN just have it develope in your lungs as well. I was born with it and I still have it (I'm 22). I I haven't grown out of it but it has gotten better with age. I don't need my rescue inhaler like I did as a kid. I just use it on occasion when I feel like my lungs are getting tight. Sometimes the humidity just makes them feel that way as well.

I wish you Good Luck............
always make sure you keep you rescue inhaler with you (in your purse, car, whereever you are...) It's never fun when you're in need of it and don't have it.

hi
well as far as i know you can get asthma when your 20, or any age, it doesnt have to start as a child, it could have just been "lying sleeping"(if you get what i mean) in your body up until now, i had it when i was a child then it dissappeared for nearly 5 years and i have it again now.
as for the inhalers i think it is all to do with how bad it is and how low your peakflow is to how much of your inhaler you would need everyday, i use mine which is called seretide, 2 times twice a day plus i have a ventalin 1 which i use when i need it
of course smoking isnt going to help it and people with asthma are all different so there is no 1 thing that triggers it with everyone there are all sorts of things that make it worse, which unless you have allergy tests etc you wot know what those things are until you come into contact with them(things like certain foods, pet hair, exercise, dust, etc)
hope this has helped
