View Full Version : Black thread - "cording"

This isn't really a dental "problem" - but I'm hoping maybe someone here can help. I'm a really bad night grinder and I ended up cracking the enamel on my teeth (plusgross looking bits of abrasion). I can't afford veneers, so my dentist did some bonding to cover the abrasion. When he did it, he pushed up the gums and did "cording" - which basically means he wedged little black strings under the gums to hold them up while he did the bonding. Problem is that although he removed the string, some of it is still there (maybe little threads?) and it looks like there are black edges on my gums (ick).

Any suggestions for getting the remaining string out from under my gums? I've been flossing, etc. but it doesn't seem to be helping...

Any tips are very very much appreciated.

P.S. I've now got a night guard for the grinding (which is like a dream - wake up headache free for the first time in years).

Thanks for the reply Gina. I think you're right - I will go back if it doesn't go away soon. I had thought to do that but I wasn't sure if I was over reacting.

Thanks again
