I'm trying to brainstorm for new activities because I am so bored in my routine. I moved to Florida from upstate New York five months ago thinking I would find adventure but instead I have found boredom.

What I do now

1) Pier fishing or deep sea fishing - pretty much every weekend. This is a solitary activity, and gets boring.

2) Go to Barnes and Noble, get coffee and read

3) Sports bar for lunch or dinner - basically, I sit and drink a beer or two, get food and pretend to watch the tv. Boring.

4) Surf the internet and post on message boards

5) Surfing waves - I tried this a couple times when I first got here but the water is too cold right now.

What do you guys do for fun? Or, if you are currently too depressed to do much, what have you enjoyed in the past or what have you dreamed of doing? I'm really trying to break out of a rut here so any suggestions are welcome.

1.i loved tennis

2. going to museums (took many, many art classes in college and at one point thought i'd go into fine arts, but ....)

3. shopping (but i don't think men like that)

4. browsing in b & n (always bought something though)

5. plays (didn't have to be expensive to enjoy)

6. concerts (have peculiar tastes for my age); also concerts in the park in the summer

7. pottery-making (again, don't know about you though)

8. read a lot, even in the park (i know--solitary activity, but i loved it)

9. paint and draw

10. do yoga (loved it there for a while)

11. go for weekends away with by exes--nice b &b's or even cheap hotels, who cared, we were only there for the night to sleep anyway

12. took cross-country trips in a car twice, but the second time only made it to Kansas, due to time pressures...the first time, did the northeast thing...

13. went to canada, brussels, israel, greece, italy, romania--dracula country(the last one often, since that's where i'm from)

14. crochet (i REALLY doubt that's the thing to turn YOU on!! ;)

15. got around with friends and went out to movies, bbq's, restaurants, parties, etc.

16. evening walks with my man...

17. make love a LOT more often...

18. went to botanical gardens, the zoo, parks (they're not only for kids!!) and i'm a kid too -- at heart. :)

19. went to aquariums, like the one at coney island....v. cool...you could stroll on the boardwalk and be entertained while looking at all the "weirdos" out there (i.e., a guy wearing a snake around his neck--no disrespect to anyone loving reptiles!!!!!)

20. went to this place called old bethpage village restoration--(it shows what it would have been like to live on long island in the 1800's)....

i went and did much, much more...but a lot of these were done when my depression wasn't as bad as now. that is, BD (before depression). SD (since depression) got worse, i hardly do much of these anymore. i still shop though...sometimes, impulsively..but i try very hard not to.

What about going to Sea world? a membership is about $6 each month. There is Bush Gardens, the beach(don't know if your close to any of these things.) Have you thought about volunteering(libraries, animal shelters, etc.) Don't know if that is what your looking for. What about movies sometimes. I think the best thing to do is to put yourself where you can meet new people. What about a part-time job? Or even taking some courses you find of interest at a community college?

I live here I know how boring it gets.

i also like home improvement projects and do-it-yourself stuff. it's good to see something i did myself that improves my surroundings and looks nice.

and now the parks and streets are starting to come alive with all sorts of parades and get-togethers. most of all, for free!!!

How about...

1. Go to a video arcade...
2. Definitely get into reading...
3. Movies? DVDs?
4. Learn to draw? Take a drawing class?
5. Further your education? Go back to school...
6. Part time job or volunteering, yeah...
7. Photography... Take pictures of stuff and get into that?

I'll keep thinking... Gotta be more... :) Good luck, k? (((((hugs)))))

Well I'm from central Fla and lived in Orlando for many years. Not sure what part you are in, but here is what I did in Orlando. I found there to be too much to do at times. Quite a bit different from here in SC where everything is laid back heh.

- Year pass to the theme park of your choice. Mine was Sea World cause I'm not a rides person.
- Hard Rock / House of Blues. Great for concerts or a special get together dinners.
- City Walk. Great night life with tons of various clubs and restraunts.
- Church Street. Great in some doses, but def not a every weekend thing.
- Pleasure Island. Loved the movies theaters there
- Shopping. There was so many little quaint off the norm shops around there.
- Fishing. Always good in Fla
- Beach. See above heh
- Sports. Depending on where you are there is the Heat, Dolphins, Magic, Bucs, Jags, and tons of minor league teams.

Again it all depends where in fla you lives as Fla is broken up into many different types of areas heh

Hi, I live in South Ga myself. We like to go to Jax on the weekends ourselves just to get out of Ga. May I ask ...do you do these things all alone? If you're lonely maybe you can find someone to hang out with ....I'm a lover of thrift stores and pawn shops (geeky I know) but you find some interesting things there. Are there any hobbies that interest you?

I'm lucky enough to live by a B&N and a Borders, so I go there. I also read a lot, I particularly like reading outdoors.

Go for walks.
Go to the gym.
Rent DVDs.
Go to movies.
Build puzzles.
Do crossword puzzles.
Read posts here.
Research odd topics that come to mind.
Take non-credit courses at the community college.
Knit.
Check out old cemeteries. (lots of history and architecture)
Paint rooms in your house.
Volunteer at animal shelter or library.
Offer to walk a neighbor's dog.
Organize/plan something. (Block party? Poker night?)
Check if your public library is holding any meetings or talks which are open to the public.
