I had a tooth removed and a root canal about two weeks ago both were awefull! I have really long roots so of course I got a dry socket and had to be packed but after that, things were starting to get alot better until last week when my face started throbing ( its the left upper moler that was removed) and I knew something was wrong so I went back to my dentest and he dug out a bone shard of some sort. I thought It was over untel yesterday and now I feel another one comeing so I tried to dig it out myself and it only made my socket swell and face throb again. I thought people dug these out all the time and so I didnt want to bother my dentest whos a great guy and wouldnt mind but I dont want to be a bother. any advice? This makes the side of my face throb near my lower part of my eye towords my sinus, If this is normal let me know please.

Don't try to do it yourself, hon. That's what the dentist gets paid for...if he didn't get it all the 1st time, then let him get it out now. Never feel like a bother, they are used to people coming in with problems. You wouldn't want to hurt yourself or cause an infection!
If your eye/sinus is throbbing, could you have another dry socket?
Are you on antibiotic or were you?
I did call him and he called in a prescription for pain meds and im seeing him tomarrow morning again. I was on an antibiotic when I had my dry socket but I am off it for now. I didnt tell him I had tried digging it out myself but I know hes going to be able to see the cuts. He has me taking 800 mg of ibu every 4 hours for swelling and the pain meds as needed. He asked me to get oil of clove but no place here in New braunfels has any so ill just wait on that until tomarrow. I drove to 4 different pharmacys hehe. I will ask him why my face throbs , I read about these shards coming out and the fact that it hurts the cheek or what ever its poking when its coming out but this is inside the socket and aches deep. Its just so weird. Its very tender to touch tho on the outside of the gum so im really looking forword to the numb shot if you can believe that! No pain for a few hours sounds like heaven right now even if I have to take a couple shots to get it. Thanks so much for your reply it made me feel so much better .

I'm going through the same thing and I feel the same way! I almost cried tonight because I'm tired of hurting. I had a tooth pulled last week and prepared for an implant. I felt great for a few days, and then I started hurting. I had to go back last week because of lockjaw. Then I called today to say that something was still not right, and they had me come in again. It turned out to be bone shards. He removed some, but it's only a few hours later and I can feel a piece sticking out again. I don't want to call tomorrow, because I feel like a big baby, but it hurts. I don't want to go through this again.
