tealite77, read all the posts here about people quitting and get some ideas of how others have quit. You have to decide to quit and quit when you are ready. I wish someone had broken all my fingers when I was only a year into it so I couldn't light that darn cancer stick, I'd love to erase 25 years of damage to my body.

Good luck and come back here for encouragement if you'd like!!

tealite-
Write down all the reasons why you want to quit smoking.
Think about what triggers you to smoke - stress, alcohol, etc.
Research different options - nicotine replacement, or a prescription.
Once you KNOW you are ready, pick a date. Tell your friends, family - whoever you want on your support team, and visit this board daily!
good luck!

tealite,
I'm glad you recognize the need to quit smoking. The cigarette companies are putting more nicotine in their products to keep us addicted. And that is what this is......an addiction. It has to be treated like an addiction. Realize you need help in quitting.
Lots of people on this board are using a fairly new drug called Chantix. It works. I used it. But you need a prescription for it. Some insurance companies cover it, some don't. Mine didn't. I cost me about $125 a month. Someone else posted it cost them $113, I think. Check around. Prices vary with pharmacies.
Also, a lot of people have quit using nicotine replacement. The patch, gum, inhalers.
There is hypnosis. There is laser. There is always cold turkey.
Which ever method you decide on, please know that there are people here to help you through this.
There is an excellent web site, smokefree.gov that offers advice and encouragement in quitting smoking. Check it out.
Good Luck to you. Let us know what you decide.

Hi, this may sound stupid and it wasn't something I did but apparantly it works. Sit down and write a letter to a loved one (spouse, kids, etc.) explaining why smoking and killing yourself is better than spending more time with them. I mean, I wouldn't actually give them the note but it does make you think, doesn't it. Also, there isn't anything more helpful than the support of others through it so find someone that will help you through it. For me, my fiancee has been there for me more than I would ever dream she would be and she still is because it's only been 16 days since I quit chewing tobacco.

Good Luck!
