A former personal trainer once told me that if you drink a Mountain Dew shortly before exercising you won't have to wait 20 minutes before your body starts burning 'stored' fat....any here agree/disagree with that?
I realize caffeine isn't a fat burner per say but I've heard that theory a couple of times now......

Mountain Dew? That doesn't make any sense. Caffeine has been purported to help the fat burning process but ALL THAT SUGAR is ridiculously counterproductive. A cup of coffee is probably a better idea. I prefer a low-dose thermogenic (ECA stack) for both fat-burning and upped energy.
Caffeine speeds up your metabolism and ups the heart-rate, which is the goal of cardio, so if you start with a slightly higher heart-rate, it takes less time to get it to the right place for "fat burning zone".

Thanks Nax! With the Mountain Dew the sugar didn't make any sense to me either but I just wanted to understand the how the caffeine came into play and now I do...thanks!
