*wave*

While this is my first official post, I've actually been reading these boards for about a year now. Especially this board. I set my 'quit day' as August 18th because a truck show comes through here and I figured I could use those three days as a great distraction. I ended up not going to the truck show but I did quit cold turkey at 6 that morning. I rarely think about cigarettes at all - so much so that I didn't know I had been 6 months free until I saw a thread by another poster here who quit around the same time as me. I got a tracker the other day and I can't believe I've saved myself almost a thousand bucks and over a week of my life. Wow.

Wow! Good for you Mythica! What an inspiring story and thanks for sharing your experience with us. I am a newbie quitter - I'm 3 days into my quit - and it's great to hear everyone's story, how, why, what they experienced when they quit. 6months is a great milestone for you! You should treat yourself to something really special - like $1,000 shopping spree! HA!

Congrats! :blob_fire

That's so awesome...6 months. Today I'm 18 days smoke/nicotine free. Please reply to posts that you see on the board. You must have some much information and experiences during your quit time. It's been so helpful and inspirational when I read other people's struggles and success. Thanks so much for posting!!

Thank you, Skimmer. *hug* I wish you the best! Every single time you think of a cigarette and pass it up, your winning. Just don't give up. Just think of those damn cigarette companies getting rich off your potential death from smoking.

I started smoking when I was 13 years old. I just turned 23 in Feb. so I smoked for almost ten years. I had been wanting to quit smoking for a couple years before I actually did. My boyfriend still smokes and while he supports me - nobody else outside my two best friends do. In quiting, a saw some people in a whole new light. Quiting is a huge deal - it effects more than your lungs. I have been eating better and taking better care of myself and it all started because I quit smoking.

Congrats, wailana! I'm so proud of you. I'll try and reply to some posts. Though I think other posters around here have it going on. Everyone is so nice and supportive.

You'll get there, Kevin.:D
Don't get me wrong, sometimes when I see a cigarette, I remember how much I loved the taste of them but it passes just as quickly as the thought emerged. I think that I'll always remember that. It doesn't make you weak or mean you're going to start smoking again. However, when I smell them it makes me dizzy. I hate the smell of them. I hugged a friend of mine the other day and she ranked. I can't believe I use to smell like that and I didn't even know it! My nose is like uber powered now. lol.

Hi mythica,
I'm so glad you stopped lurking and decided to join us. You will find the people here are just awesome!
You and I are really close on our quit dates. I stopped on August 14, 2006. But I used the Chantix. Whoa...no way could I go cold turkey. You are a really strong person to be able to do that. Congratulations!! Please stay around for a long while and help and inspire us all.

The people around here are awesome. It's why I never signed up. I just took everyone's advice (the quit day and things to munch on) and did it. I didn't feel I needed to ask any questions because they'd already been answered. It was my third time trying and it stuck this time.:D I think setting up a quit day really, really helped me out. And I wouldn't have thought to do that on my own for some reason.

And congrats to you! The habit was the hardest thing to break and no drugs help with that. At least I don't think so. I don't have any problem with people using the drugs and patches or gums. It just makes me a little mad that the companies that are selling them are taking advantage of people who want to quit. And you know they are because there wouldn't be money behind a product that a 'consumer' uses once and never needs again. Instead they get hooked on the gums and patches and they know it. Grrr. Talk about kicking you when you're down.

Hi all,
I just joined -- today I took my first Chantix pill and am hoping to be able to quit in about a week or so. I've tried other things before that didn't work, so I am REALLY hoping this med will help and that I can do it this time.

How do I get to the current thread on this site? And how do you log into the site?

Thanks.

Mythica,

Welcome,your story is inspiring.

I have been smoking longer than you are old.

I am in day 13 of being a non-smoker and using chantix.I tried cold turkey and it wasn't a pretty site.

But like everything ya gotta have the want, the will and the desire.I have all three now.

I tried the patches, gum and lozengers and had no success with them, they were to easy ,peel the patch off, spit the gum out and the lonengers burnt my throat.

The chantis I know is in my system and its working.Yes,its alot of money making on these items and people go from smoking to some hooked on the gum and patches, but out weighing the cigs and the stop aides,in the long run their lungs are healthier.

My uncle got addicted to halls cough drops when he quit years back.

Again congrats.
