One cup, 8 fluid ounces of skim milk has 306 mg. of calcium.

If you use 2% fat milk, the calcium is 285 mg.

Wow that's not nearly as much as I thought it would be. One of the Three vitamins I take in a day has 1000mg of calcium! Just out of curiosity, do you know about how much I should get a day if I'm 5'5'' and play soccer about 4 days a week and get pretty knocked around?

smithxi,

If you are drinking a glass of milk AND taking a couple calcium supplements each day, you can be reasonably certain you are getting enough.
People who have mega-protein inputs tend to lose a lot of calcium so they would need more.

Milk is great, but only about 35% of the calcium in milk is absorbed fully. Some supplements are also hard to digest, especially the tablets. I use only liquids, powders, capsules or softgels.

Also, the type of calcium is important, most supplements are calcium carbonate (ground oyster shells) which is very hard to absorb. I like to use calcium citrate or calcium oratate, since they are more bio-avaliable.

Great information. Thanks for sharing that. I peeled the label off of the jar because I plan on using it in the future, but I'm going to stop back in the store and check the labels. It's in capsule form, now I'm curious to know.

Also is this 35% of 306? So 107?

Also in terms of numbers, how much should I be absorbing daily? Rough estimate if you could please throw one out there. I'm 5'5'' and 135lb remember.
