Hi Rigirl! Congrats on making the decision to quit smoking! There are a lot of Chantix users on this board, and in all phases of their quit. I felt my medication almost right away, and certainly the second day. My sister did not notice anything at all until day 7 or 8. So, just keep doing what it says, take the meds, continue smoking if you want, plan your quit day, and even so I think the Chantix site is somewhat lacking, it did bring up some good points for me. So if you haven't signed up there, that might be an option to get some insight into your smoking. And most important, come back here anytime as there is so much support and encouragement that I don't think I could have done it without the site.

I'm on day 5 of my quit!

Welcome RIGIRL!!,
Chantix works different ways on each person. I don't think any two people respond the same way. But generally it takes at least 8 days for the Chantix to really kick in. For some, it takes longer. So don't get nervous or anxious if it doesn't kick in right away for you. It will.
tampaquit is right. Make a plan. Set your quit date. If you feel strong enough on the date, just don't smoke that day.
About the side effects, I think they get a little worse when you increase the mg. but for most people they get better the longer you take the Chantix. Does that make sense to you? I was one that had them the entire time. But they were never bad enough that I wanted to quit taking the Chantix.

Quitting smoking is the best thing you could do for yourself. What a wonderful gift!! Your health is going to improve. Your hair will smell better!! You won't have to stand outside in all kinds of weather just to get your nicotine fix. Your breath will be sweeter!
Good Luck to you. And please let us know how you are doing.
