I can't believe it---the longest I've ever quit (with a patch) is 2 weeks (or thereabouts) and that was approx. 17+ years ago (I had been smoking for 10 years).

The best thing about this time is I truly feel I will stay a non-smoker. I know it's early and I have hard times ahead I'm sure but even when I'm having a 'rough' time, I swear if cigs were in front of me I would NOT light it.

I feel SO MUCH better physically (breathing, no headaches, etc.), mentally (I feel I've broken that damned chain of addiction of which I thought I had no control-----now I am know I am stronger than that. I have a more positive outlook on life which I believe is attributable to the confidence I feel in this quit).

All I can say is Chantix and this Board are the RESPONSIBLE PARTIES and for that Pfizer and EVERYONE that has posted on this board should take a bow! FOr those lurking, you know you want to quit or you wouldn't be here, so try Chantix or actually any method and use this board OFTEN.

Congratulations paulagizmo!! :blob_fire :blob_fire Here's to another 22.2 years times 5!!!

If you are using the patch, keep using them until you are ready to stop them. Who cares what the box says?

The breathing w/o wheezing is great, isn't it? :)

ps. oops, I see you used Chantix... bonk me!

Traveller,

Thanks and 'bonk'. HEE! I was AMAZED at how much better I felt (breathing) on day 1. That's actually a bit scary cuz my breathing must have been REALLY bad to feel a difference so fast. My next dr. appt. I'll be asking him to check my lungs, etc. out but no matter what I know QUITTING either saved me from something or isn't getting any worse!

Paula,
I know exactly how you feel. I have been off the Chantix for a while now. But I still feel the same way. I know I will be a non smoker for the rest of my life. I also know that I can NEVER take even one puff off of a cigarette. If I do, I'll be back smoking 1 to 2 packs a day again. And you know what, If I ever do relapse, I'll go right back on the Chantix.
Congratulations on 2 and 2!!!! Awesome!!

Aloha Paula, congrats over 2 weeks with no smoke/nicotine. I'm also little over 2 weeks and it's the longest I've quit. I also feel that this time is the time I'll be a nonsmoker. It just feels right, you know.

My cravings are very mild. There are moments that they are strong, especially driving for long periods, however, not strong enough for me to light up. I'm happy to have no wheezing and I feel my asthsma may not even come back. My allergist will be so proud of me!

Anyways, keep it up the great job, I'm cheering for ya!

Wailana - Free and Healing for Nineteen Days, 12 Hours and 35 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 16 Hours, by avoiding the use of 195 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me $50.61.

Paulagizmo and Wailana

You are going to succeed because from now on it just gets easier. :blob_fire How about adding your input to the rewards thread. It's a great place for NON SMOKERS like us to give a little back to these wonderful forums.

Memaw, you're so right. I know that I can't 'just have one'. Funny cuz in my 1st week, I kept thinking on certain occasions maybe I could/would have one but I think now that was the nico-demon talking cuz now I do know, it's just not an option, akin to an alcoholic not having another drink.

Wailana, thanks and good luck to you too---we're almost together. That's great about your asthma---talk about improving quality of life---that's huge! You're right this time it just 'feels right' to say/believe I am a non-smoker!

Mango, thanks for the kind words. The support of this board has truly been a life saver!

True Brit, good idea about posting on the rewards board. I'll def. do that.

THanks everyone for the congrats and 'keep on 'not' smokin'!:D

Congratulations Paula!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It really does feel awfully good both physically and mentally to have quit smoking! Seems like the longer you go the more your body heals. I had smoked 2-3 packs a day for well over 30 years. I quit over 31 days ago using Chantix. I can not remember feeling this good in over 30 years. The bad effects from smoking just kept getting gradually worse over that many years. Sort of like a time bomb with a long fuse.

I hear these positive health effects get much better over time. So there's a pretty good incentive never to take another puff.

Thanks Kevin. I can't believe how good I feel in such a short time! It's invigorating. The past 3 days have been 'wonderful'. Very few urges and nearly 0 side effects. I'm starting to feel like my old self (no headache, easygoing); hadn't realized I had changed but now I know/feel the difference. I will NEVER EVER smoke again. I beat the NICODEMON!

It truly is---it really reinforces why you 'are quitting', 'have quit' or 'thinking about quitting'. SOmetimes I read new posts, sometimes I read old ones I've posted---just get me in the right frame of mind each day.
