View Full Version : Androgel VS Testim, and more ?

I am on testim, 5mg, once a day, then two 5mg, every other day. Is Androgel better? I know on Testim the average T level on one a day is in the 300's and the average for two a day is in the 500's. I am trying to arm myself with as much info as I can before I go see Dr. tomorrow. I do not believe he is going to do much for me, which means I will be calling some endos later that day. I am really curious to see what my E2 and prolactin levels are at. Also I know now that my E2 should be between 20-30 and no higher than 35, but what should prolactin levels be? My docter's office says the norm for T is between 247 and 800. What actually is the norm? According to my doctors norm I should be at around 700 to be in the upper 1/4 and I am far from that.

Prolactin should be between 2 - 17.7 ng/ml... that is the range but I think that for men lower is better , becuase as far as I know prolactin has no real use in the male body...in women it creates lactation....men with very high prolactin can actually produce milk... so I would say in the middle of the range is good...If I where you I would not even mess around with the GP...if your insurance allows self referal then just find a provider directory and make an appt with the endo.... that is what I did and it def helped...my GP admited he did not know about the correct way to treat low T....

Here is something to consider also...your 300 on testim may not even be a true indicator... I have a prolactinoma, prolacin secretining pituatary tumor, and I was on Androgel for 5 months and my T level never went above 200...actually stayed around 150... until Doc started treating the prolactin with Parlodel, bromocriptine generic, and then my T shot up... please note that if you have high prolactin and the prolactinoma is the cause then you may not even need supplemental T. Prolactinomas are a cause of secondary hypogonadism... But please remember that your GP will have no idea what the hell that is....

Here is my opinion about Dr's in gen... they are like cops.. You know how cops have to pass all these fitness requirments to become a cop and then once they do they get all fat and stuff??? ( not all but alot ) Dr's seem to follow the same pattern...once they finish med school, they just start going thru the motions.... alot will go the extra mile but alot wont....

Please focus on the problem... I was like you when my T was still low on Androgel. I wanted to try testim and XYand Z. That product was not the problem it was finding the true cause of the problem....

good luck

thx...

The lab ranges are for men from 18 to 99 years old and also they are derived from statics of all labs taken and do not take into account whether or not someone was sick when they had their T tested. I don't know your age so I can't give what is normal for you but for most men under 50 their T level should be above 500. It also depends on what your SHBG level is at.
