Hi Everyone, I have a concern that I was hoping someone might be able to help me out with. My fiance and I have been trying to conceive for about 5 months now since our miscarriage and just this week he started taking Winstrol a type of steroid. I have read a lot about it and the only info that I can get is that it can lower sperm count and cause permanent damage to fertility. I dont want to stop trying though during this cycle that he is on. I cant make him stop taking them, its something that he just wants to try out to see what it does, but in the case that we do find out that we are pregnant I was wondering if it had any side effects on the baby? I may be way off topic in this board but hopefully someone can help. Thanks.

Hmm, not sure if it would be bad to get pregnant while on that. My guess is it would not matter but its strickly a guess. But your finace is nuts using any anabolic steriod. He is taking the risk of screwing up all his hormones permanently. Of course this doesnt happen to everyone on steriods but it happens to alot. You really have to know what your doing to do it right. Using them he is shutting down the normal control system your body has to regulate testosterone and sperm production, called the HPTA (hypothalmus/pituitary/testicular axis). Once shut down it does not always start back up normally when the steriods are removed. Also, he will be relatively infertile anyway while on steroids unless he is also taking HCG or HCM because the same HPTA will stop telling his testicles to make sperm and testosterone.
Low dose HCG injections 500iu will usually cause the testicles to produce more sperm & testosterone.
Research it, I can not give any websites for it because of the rules.

this subject is interesting to me... Does anyone know what the typical steriod users T levels would be while on their cycle??? I would guess way off the map... My Endo told me a story of a patient of his that was a bodybuilder and tested with low T... The Dr put him on Androgel and this guy supposedly would coat himself in the stuff and then even took blood work for the Dr and it came back at a total T of 5000... the story sounds odd but if true that is out of control...that is 8 to 10 times higher than high normal... insane...
Another thing I am curious about... Aside from shuting down normal HPTA production, what are the real long term results of steriod abuse? Everyone has heard the story of Lyle Alzado and his claim that he got brain cancer from steriod abuse but there is also no direct evidence that steriods where the cause... Liver damage.??? not sure again becuase read the side effects of almost any prescription med and liver damage is on about 90% of them...Tylenol can supposedly cause liver problems long term... not try to justify it just put into perspective...
There was a story about this on HBO real sports a couple years back and they said that there was no real evidence that reasonable steriod use for performance in a healthy adult male would cause any real problems... I do not remember them talking about the long term issue of fertility and hormone production which is a fact that has been established to shut down...
thx....

Thanks everyone for your response, I have printed off some stuff from the internet on how it can affect his HPTA and totally shut it down for good and I am hoping to get a good response from his as to stopping until we are done with having children so that we dont have to take drastic measures in order to become pregnant. Again, thanks for the info.
