Hi, I am so glad to find this board. I am preparing for L4/5 and L5/S1 ALIF on March 27. All information is so helpful. Some of the stories sound so much like mine. Short history: 98 work injury causing L5/S1 herniation; microdiscectomy in 2000; further herniation 2001 and cancelled fusion at that time. Now am facing 2 levels of degeneration. My pain is primarily back pain now with standing, sitting or bending and left toe numbness with occassional shock going down left thigh. The toe and thigh I can handle, the pain in the back from activities is what I want to be rid of. When my 3 year old grand-daughter tells me that she's too heavy for me, that tears at the heart strings. I have given up fishing with husband a long time ago. You don't realize what you just stop doing to avoid the pain. I plan to rely on this board to get me through and answer questions. Thanks in advance.
Bailey

Yeah that! Welcome to the board. I have found this board to be so helpful especially during the pre and now post surgical phase. I can ask any question and many people chime in to give me reassurance or some great advice.
So are you ready for your surgery? Have you seen at the top of the board the stickies about post op preparation?
Again welcome and don't hesistate to ask any questions.

Hi, and welcome, sorry you have to come here..meaning you are what we call a spiney. But...you will find lots of support and answers here.
Diet Dr Pepper just had fusion four weeks ago, she has a very long post that says postop. Clover just had fusion a few days ago and she is posting and lots of people here have had them. So there is a wealth of information that the doctors don't tell us, and tricks to make life easier.
I personally have 8 days till mine. I was scared to death, but now only opptomistic..I feel prepared, and supported and feel good about my decision. Wishing you the best vette

Yvette, I had my microdiscectomy in KC, but this surgery will be in Wichita. Wish it was in KC, my daughter lives there, but I didn't have a choice. Are you having the same procedure as Harmony and myself?
