I am 51 and have experienced perimenopausal symptoms over the last few years, so I know this could have something to do with that. But I have weird stuff going on, and am worried.
I went to the doctor three months ago, had a yeast and then a bacterial infection - she prescribed Monistat and then Flagyl. It went away. Then I started using Replens on a regular basis to restore my vagina PH, which worked until last week when it began itching, and then I started having a weird discharge - kind of tannish, cream color - enough to wear a pad. Kind of an odor to it, but not bad. I started an OTC yeast infection cream, but I'm still having a bit of the itch and the discharge. Is this maybe just a period? I'm thinking as I'm getting closer to the end of my periods, maybe this is what it looks like now? Or do I have the bacterial infection again?? Is there something over the counter I can get for it, or something at the health food store??? Please help!

sounds to me like the beginning of bacterial vaginosis, an imbalance in bacteria. the only way to get rid of it for good is to get antibiotics prescribed by your gyno.

Also, give fyi, Monostat, and other harmful chemical yeast infection drugs can actually cause resistance in your bacteria. TRY acidophylis(sp?) its what is in yogurt, and for me, its the ONLY thing that can healthily and safely reduce yeast infections and maintain vaginal health.
