I lost my mom to sclc a year ago. They are saying there could be some genetic link to lung cancer especially if you have a parent or sibling with it. What are your opinions on a spiral ct to make sure everythings ok? I have been thinking about talking to my doctor about it. I know Im at risk as I have smoked in the past.
At the same time I dont want to go looking for something that might not be there, but I do know how important early detection is. My mom had no signs until she was diagnosed at stage iv.
I know how sneaky lung cancer can be and I just want to do whatever I can to not let it sneak up on me like it did mom. My aunt on my dads side also had lung cancer.
Just looking for some opinions and GOD BLESS everyone on this board as I know its a tough road.
Thank You:angel:

Hi there,
I am in the same boat as you and often ponder this question myself. I posted a similar question before and basically they said that the radiation is so high it can have a cumulative effect. Also, you can be cancer free at the screening and get it 4 or 5 mos later. I wish there were an answer. I did read about a new ct scan that is 64 bit or 64 slice. It is supposed to give you less radiation and takes in to account you body size and lowers or raises the doseage based on your size. I would do it annually if the exposure were similar to a chest Xray. If someone out here has heard about it or knows how radiation it emits, please post. Also, if you ask your Dr. about it please come back and post what s/he says. Thanks!

the spiral ct is a great way to detect and see a clear view. i would do that. By the time it's seen on regular xray...it could be too late.
