Can some one please tell me how to tell if I have arthritis?
I'm almost 32. At 23 I had an accident in which I tore my menicus, dislocated my right kneecap, and tore a ligament in my leg. The rehab process was slow and long. I really beat up my other knee for probably close to 2 years while I favored the injured one. Last week I again twisted my right knee, and again used my left one 2xs as much. Now my left knee is really aching all the time, and it has done this over the years occasionally, only never for so many consecutive days. The right knee aches but not as bad. I have full range of motion, but morning stiffness in both knees (have had for years) and this ache and ?fatigue? in my knee all day, even when sitting. I have a doctor appt. 3/9 and really want to know how far to push this- am I looking for arthritis help?Or something else? Thanks for any advice/response!

Hi there. Yes, it sounds to me like it is arthritis, because I was just recently diagnosed with degenerative disc disease and arthritis as well. I am a 35 year old female and I was also in a car accident quite some time ago. (I was aprox.22) In any case, my symptoms began with severe muscle stiffness and limited mobility in my neck and shoulders, and then , more recently,my knee became swollen and inflamed. You may also want to ask your Doctor to get you a ct c-spine x-ray (cat scan)and this will definitively give you confirmation of arthritis. That was the test I had done. It also showed bone spurs and a pinched nerve. I hope that helps you out a bit. Also, you can have flare ups on and off, sometimes long stretches of pain that jumps around. It doesnt always have to be both knees or both hands etc...it can hit more on one side than the other. Mine jumps around alot. It will go from one knee to both, one elbow gets hit really bad for me all the time,my ankles, hands, wrists and feet. It just jumps all over the place. I have seen a chiropractor, been in physio but what I consistently use is pain meds such as percocet. I hope that helps you out. Lori:wave:

You have Osteoarthritis, wear and tear type. You could get an x-ray and know for sure, if the doctor looking at the x-rays is good.

Hi there. I know it seems strange but I dont technically have the exact name of the arthritis. I do know that it is rheumatoid and not osteoarthritis.I will give you a quick chronological background so that you have something to compare your symptoms. When I was about 17 I started suffering from really bad migraines and then, at 17, I got hit with Bells Palsy. that is basically like a stroke but affects the face only--it is as if someone drew a line down the middle of your face, and one side works normally and the other side will not move at all. This lasted for 9 LONG months. Anyway, I then got hit with Bells Palsy again when I was 21. Lasted 3 months this time. I was also rear ended in a car accident when I was 22. I had trouble with my neck from that moment on. I also get a lot of tension headaches.I still do get a lot of headaches. Over the last few years my symptoms have begun to include swelling and pain in ankles, feet, hands, wrists, knees, upperarm between elbow and shoulder, shoulders, neck, fingers and mobility--its just crazy.
Different diagnosis methods have included bloodwork, a c-spine x-ray and a c-spine cat scan. These 2 methods will confirm your arthritis and what kind you have. Different methods of treatment I have tried are as follows:
physiotherapy and chiropractors----I found the physio to be totally useless and non-beneficial at all (this could have more to do with the therapist I had as opposed to the actual method) and I would NOT recommend a chiropractor, as I was always in way more pain after a visit to the chiropractor. This may not be true of all people, but it was for me.
I have also been prescribed a number of medications--I have been on anti-depressant meds for the migraine and I have been prescribed muscle relaxants for the neck problems (cyclobenzaprine) I found these didnt really change anything at all. I have also used tylenol 3, demerol, fentanyl patch and percocet.I use tensor bandages on wrists, ankles, knees and elbows, and these help with the pain sometimes. I hope this helps you out. Also, this has nothing to do with bacteria or virus.
Lori :)

You probably have arthritus, dear. A simple xray will tell you. There is much you can do to help arthritus, especially if it's from an injury. I have it and live with it successfully and you can too. First have your doctor get an x-ray of the area and confirm the thought.

I have had great success with a chiropractor and something called "Frequency Specific Microcurrent".
Its not expensive and not invasive. most importantly, it requires no meds - I have a fatty liver which is sensative to Tylenol, aspirin, etc. Hope this helps.
