Of course you're tired because you're not only underweight but you are exercising excessively. Think about it. Your body is like your car, if you don't put gas into it, it will run out, if you don't maintain it properly it will break down, but if you over run it, it also will not perform like it use to. It needs taken care of just like your body does. Eat correctly, exercise 5-6 times a day for no more than an hour. You don't need more than that. Take vitamin supplements and relax. What you want is a healthy body inside, it is what will keep you going and enjoying life. Take care.

Do you have a treatment team right now? If not, I'd suggest getting one again.

The trick about the ED is your body will never be thin enough for the ED, no matter what you weigh. I had to learn this the hard way. When my weight was very low and I was having all sorts of health problems associated with weighing too little, I still felt fat. I looked in the mirror and still saw fat and cellulite.

You don't need to exercise that much. In fact, right now, you need to gain weight and probably not exercise at all (or very little, much less than you are currently doing). You need to get a dietician, a therapist, a psychiatrist and really start devoting yourself to recovery.

You have to stop kidding yourself about recovery. Just because you are seeing a dietician, a therapist, are inpatient, whatever, you will not recover unless you actively start trying to change the way you respond to ED thoughts. So have them, sure, but just don't act on them. This is very tricky especially at first, but it's what needs to be done to recover.

It is possible to recover from anorexia; I have been recovered for 5 years now. I'm no longer a slave to the scale, I always have a few days off from exercising, I eat normal amounts and am not obsessing over food all the time, I can sleep again, and I'm really pretty happy most of the time. I'm no longer depressed. Yes, I still have body image issues, but at least now I have energy, I'm not weak or dizzy, my hair is not falling out, my skin looks nice, and I have not gotten fat. My weight is at the low end of normal for my height and has been for years. Eating more and cutting out excessive exercise did not turn me into a fat slob, and it won't turn you into one either.

Good luck!

thanks alot for your feed back..its really inspiring to here that there are people who have recovered and are now living happy lives..congratulations! I have one question though if its not to personal to ask..while you were underwegith did you constatnly feel tired..as if everything was a work out example walking down the halls or going up the stairs..and if i put on weight can i expect that to go away or?

Yes, when I was very underweight, I was tired all the time. I remember walking around on my college campus between classes feeling like I could pass out at any moment. I often got faint and dizzy standing up, and I had heart palpitations too. This is why if you are so weak and tired, I strongly urge you to NOT exercise at all; I think the suggestion of the PP while well meant, could still harm you because that is a lot of exercise if you need to gain weight.

You need to really monitor your caloric intake and FYI before the numbers got deleted, that is on the low side for a male, that is more like for a male wanting to maintain or even lose weight. You need to eat more calories to gain weight and exercise less (if at all) for the time being. I strongly urge you to get a dietician and try to follow the guidelines suggested.

As for how I feel physically, yes, feeling dizzy and weak and like simply walking down the hall were chores has gone away completely. Now, I'm only weak and dizzy and tired when I'm sick with the flu or some other bug. I feel so much better, it's unbelievable.

Feeling weak/dizzy/faint/tired is your body trying to tell you something is not right! It is not getting enough calories and you are exercising too much. Another thing is if exercise is a chore you have to do every single day (extreme guilt by taking even 1 day off) and it is something you no longer enjoy doing, then it is a manifestation of your ED. Now, I exercise again but moderately, much less intensity and length of time than before and usually take off a couple days (or more) each week. It's a healthy amount of exercise, and my life doesn't revolve around it any more.

Good luck to you! Please do look into a dietician (preferably one with experience working with ED sufferers) and a therapist if you don't already have them.
