Oh my gosh, I thought I lost this place:eek: but it is just different.
Ok picked my meds up tonight and will be starting tomorrow morning :D

I need and want this to work. I am a little scared, but I know and see all the support on this board and know I am not alone in this adventure.

I have set my Quit Date as March 10th and intend on NOT smoking on that day.

So there it is said for all the world to see...I am going to become a NON-Smoker, a healthier person and hoping that the moodswings will not show up..

Shari,
Condrads on making the decision to quit. Before I stopped myself i did th same thing and lost this board as somehow i didnt save it. It was only after i kept think of the name of memaw that i was able to locate it by going to google and typing in memaw chantix and sure enough it brought it up. I am at 5 days now as i type and if i can quit anyone in the world should be able to. I smoke 2.5+ packs a day for over 20 years and i have to say that just after 5 days i cant ever remember feeling this good, oh how nice it is to breath again. I myself didnt go by all the rules as i continued to smoke for 3 weeks before laying them down. I guess we all know when it is the right time. I myself worried about the with drawal, in which there actually seemed to be none for me, it was so amazing. I now find that i have to much extra time as im not smoking. In a way i have gained about 5 hours a day by not smoking as it took about 5 minutes to smoke a cig, multply that by 60 of them and you have 300 minutes of smoking time a day or in my case i did and that works out to about 5 hours of smoking a day.
It a wonder i ever got anything done.
Keep reading the site, ask all the questions that you can think of , and most of all just believe in yourself and you can do it. I for one never though i would be able to quit, but i did. They claim it takes 72 hours for the nicotine to purge from your body, i counted down those hours and it got easier with each passing hour. Now I am at 5 days and look forward to the next 5 and the next 5 and so on. YOU CAN DO IT.

Thank you some much for the support and this is so strange you should be the first to post on my thread..My husband is from Ky..born there ....

The one thing I am most looking forward to is breathing without coughing, smelling smells again and not having a smoke in my hand or mouth all the time..Smoking for me has become a complete habit..it tastes horrible, my lips are forever burning along with my tongue...so why do I still smoke..40 years of habit...I don't know how not to smoke..but I am going to learn starting tomorrow morning...

Thanks again

Hi Shari! Good luck on your quit date tomorrow- Deb's right - whenever you feel the urge tomorrow, just get online and read these posts. They've saved me those first few days. Course, I got carpal tunnel syndrome from on the computer so much but so what! I made it a whole week - today is DAY 7 Smoke free for me and it's wonderful! I smoked for over 20 yrs! Never thought I could or would give them up, but it is such a relief. I was always worried about dying young of a smoking related disease. I've lost a couple of co-workers to lung cancer at a very young age, you would think that would have been a wake up call!!

So, just think of all the positive things about being a non-smoker!! It's the greatest decision you could ever make for your health and your future!

We're here for you - if you need to talk, vent, cry - I've done all the above and people listened and consoled me. This board is GREAT!!!

Have a great weekend everyone....

Ok this is going to work...

Thank you and Congrats on Day 11....you are doing great :bouncing:

Hi Skimmer,

Happy Dancing for you and your 7 Days yessssssssssss...

Oh I know what you are talking about. My Dad died 16 yrs ago from lung cancer, I helped take care of him..you would of though that would have knocked some sense into me...but it didn't...Did it scare me, yes and it does to this day...How much damage have I done to me. Well i can't worry about that now. I need to stop this 40 yr habit and get on with life without having to step outside to smoke, without having to finish a smoke to go into a store, church, theater, resturant, finding the nearest cover so I won't get wet when it rains so i can smoke...

Yup addictions are hard to break, but I am seeing the results of what you all are doing and I am right there...I know it is my time to step up and take charge of my life and not let this addition continue to direct my life.

Oh I will be here to support, vent, cry and have my temper tantrums, which I am hoping are very mild hehhehe..

Thanks for hearing me out...and CONGRATS again..

Shari! Good for you! 10 hours, keep going! That first day is probably the hardest, especially when someone is there smoking around you. Can you go shopping or get out of the house? I can't believe it doesn't bother you - but that's great. I would've caved that first day if someone was smoking around me still. I'm lucky, my husband I quit the same day and time. We are one week into it. Why do you say your quit day is in one week? Or did I misunderstand?

Anyways - good luck and keep up the hard work! It gets easier day by day!!

Skimmer I started the first pill yesterday and am on pill 2 today....I think by tomorrow I probably won't even light a smoke up...I lite one up and took two drags and put it out...that drag made my heart beat out of my chest heheheheh ....so I guess someone is telling me something, like you don't need that...so I put the pack in the freezer...and pulled out the mints...they taste better anyway...

I have set my Quit Date for March 10th, but I really think it will be much earlier than that...

Deb,

Day 3 has begun....and 1 cig smoked...yes hubby still smokes and I think he is waiting to see if this works for me...he still smokes in the house and that isn't to bad...I have my mind set on quitting and the smoke so far hasn't been a trigger for me...
I did find I was taking these pills way to early in the morning...because by 6 or 7 pm I was having some problems, but I did the fight I found something else to do to keep me busy...exercised, cooked and went to bed early....very early...hehehhe...

I plan on winning this time...

Hi Shari: Welcome! So glad you're gonna be a non-smoker. I know what you mean: I was sooooooooooooooooo scared.....so afraid of yet another failure in my effort to quit smoking. Chantix really has been a wonder drug for me. I'm on day 22 of not smoking and I've been smoking for 45+ years.

Best wishes!!

Welcome aboard Shari for making one of the best decisions of *your* life!
Anything worth doing is worth being frightened of a little bit, I think.
My wife still smokes a little, but has been kind to be doing it at work or walking the dog because she knows it was the most difficult thing I have ever tried.
(and this comes from a guy who tried to fly off the roof, ride a bicycle on a frozen lake, and stay awake 25 hours a day in college!)
Once I can get past the Chantix, she's gonna try it, but if we were both going to quit, someone was going to be quitting eating!:D
One urge at a time, they are ALL beatable!
When in doubt, just come ask us! ;)

Best Regards,

The dreaded day 3 is over now!! Phew!! Just think the carbon monoxide levels in your blood have dropped to normal. The oxygen level in your blood has increased to normal. Your chance of a heart attack has decreased. The nerve endings have started regrowing. Your ability to smell and taste is enchanced. All this in just 3 days!!! See how awesome you are doing?
Keep it up!!

Today has been awesome...I have worked my tail end off...and have accomplished so much I can't believe it...no stopping or quitting just to smoke. I really didn't even think about it...This is the first time in years that I am Phyiscally tired...not mentally whipped...
It is almost time for the second pill and I still don't even want to smoke...now this is hard for me to understand, but I am just going with it...yes hubby has smoked all day in the house...and no I can't say that it really bothered me...I was just way to busy....hehhehehhe...

Congrats Deb on 2 weeks!! WOW! That's awesome! :blob_fire

Shari - That's great the Chantix is working for you, and you have cut down to 5 smokes a day! Even with a smoker in the house and spending 8 hrs in the car with you all day? Is your husband supporting you? Does he want to quit, or is he waiting to see if it works for you? My husband and I quit together. I don't think I would've been able to stand watching him or smelling him or have him drinking a beer, having a smoke, while I was trying to quit. So far, we are both doing great! One week and four days quit for both of us! And he was a heavy smoker. I'm so happy for both of us - it's something that has bugged me forever, being a smoker. But now, I am a NON-SMOKER and loving it!!

Keep up the great work and good luck on your quit!! Come back and let us know how you're doing....

I really think he is waiting to see if it really is going to work for me...hehhehe...

He keeps telling me how proud he is of me...and that is sincere...I am the one that always started the non smoking trek, then bit his head off the first time I couldn't smoke...but this is great and he is talking about getting it when I feel secure with using the pill...He has cold turkey quit before for years then started up again 10 yrs ago..but smokes very heavy...it really worries me...he has some really big health issues...

Right now this quit is for me...not my hubby, mom, kids or grandkids...they will benefit from my quit, but this is on me for me...to prove once an for all I can be a Non-Smoker.......:blob_fire

Congrats to you and your hubby...((((hugs))))))

Shari, you sound like a lot of us who think this is a wonder pill. I sincerely hope your husband will consider using it too, especially since you have been so successful. And you have a clean house to boot:) I think that is the amazing part of taking this med to quit. I didn't get the withdrawel and urges that are soooo bad you can't stand it. Now I thought about cigs, and dreamed about smoking, etc. but it is so much better every day.

Thanks hun....I have noticed one thing..I have been on the computer for hours now and haven't even thought about smoking...now that is a huge WOW...Oh the hubby will, but like others we also have to eat hehehheh...our insurance doesn't cover this..so it is on us...
He will slow down I think once he figures the smoke isn't bothering me......

Shari,
You are doing soooo good in your quit!! Way to go!!
I know about that going to bed and coughing. I used to do it every night. Tried to clear my lungs so I could sleep. I would wake myself up wheezing. I would also try to position my head so I wouldn't wheeze as much, so my husband wouldn't hear how bad my lungs were. He never did smoke!
But it sure does feel good to take a deep breath now!!
Keep up the good work!

Shari,
You are doing soooo good in your quit!!

Oh yah...sleeping like a baby....I didn't do as good today as yesterday, but not as bad as in the past...so tomorrow is another day and it will be better.
I am closing in on my quit date and I think that might have been the problem..but I will get over it...my hubby is surprised...and that is a very good thing.

I actually got rid of about 4 pillows last night...Happy dancing...
Ok bed time..Dr. appointment tomorrow very early..

Thanks Memaw for the support hun

Shari -
how is it going on your quit day?! Hang in there, keep busy and be very PROUD of yourself. Let us know how you are doing.....we've been there! It gets easier. and remember - smoking is not an option!

Hi Deb:

Started the Blue pills today and didn't have a smoke until an hour ago..then put it out...tasted like garbage...my gum tastes better...heheheheh

This is truly working...hubby is still smoking and it still doesn't bother me...I just want the windows open and luckly I can cuz it is 80 today..

I have done the deep breathing when I kind of felt I wanted a smoke and like you all said it would pass...and it did...I caved for 2 drags and have decided that the trash can have my smokes...nasty tasting .....

I am so happy dancing...Thanks Chantix ...and my doctor..

For anyone that is looking for help this is the place and this is the drug...

Shari,
I'm so proud of you! The Chantix is doing it's job and you are doing yours!!

All you people that talk about it being in 80's, the Florida quitters and now you!! Well in Mississippi today it was a beautiful and nice 72 sunny degrees!!
I've an aunt in Phoenix and she is always ragging on me about how nice it is there in the winter time. But I get even with her when ya'll are having 100+ temps. Yeah, uh huh...it's a dry heat!

Let us know how you are doing tomorrow. Each day is different. For me, each day was just a little better than the one before. Keep doing the deep breathing. It really does help. Now remember now Smoking is no longer an option.

Shari,
I was so glad to read that things are going well. Keep up the great work....and if you need something to do...my house could really use a good cleaning! :D

deb

Deb,

HEHEHEHHEHEH well lets see after I finish here and the painting that needs to be done, I can maybe fit you in ......

They are going great....I am in awe with this stuff...I have had my weak moments and yes gave in to one...but stepped right back on the box...

I know that this still isn't going to be easy and that I will have weak moments and I do deep breath, go outside, find something else to do and those moments or flashes seem to go away...

Thanks hun for being here..

Well i got us this AM and went about my morning routine minus the smoke..and at 10am I realized I hadn't yet had my pill...ate breakfast and popped that sucker...now that is a first...
I do miss the smoking now and again, but I am really liking this not coughing and the energy and sleeping like a log...so the missing will just have to happen, I am not going back..ever.. you know even the coffee doesn't taste as good as I thought it did....hehehehe

Well ice tea and exercise is on the menu for today...yesssssssss...

Now about the 100+ temps....hehehhe I love them..I am looking forward to that heat and my bones to stop hurting...

(((hugs))))

I have been forgetting doses here and there of my chantix, mostly in the evening time.... and your lucky to be sleeping well, I wake up every hour!! BUT I'll deal with it!!!

mary
