I went to the emergency room several days ago with a crippling pain in my left side and what do you know ... kidney stones!!! i know not the most exciting news in the world but hey, can't let it get me down. So im supposed to get it removed in a couple days by means of a Stent where they will aparently remove the stone. Should i expect any pain during the procedure / or after? and will they use a local anesthetic or will i be put out completely while they do the procedure? Ive been in so much pain these last couple days that i just cant wait to have it out. Thanks for any replies :)

I'm not sure how it goes with men- but I had a stent put in about 3 weeks ago due to stones and the fact that I am pregnant- so they couldn't do the proper x-rays nor blast them so I could pass them.
It was my understanding that stents are put in for more chronic stone conditions- and not to actually help you pass the stone- but to help the urine bypass the stones so it doesn't back up--- but I may be wrong!
For me- again- a woman- they did a spinal for anesthesia to insert the stent. I didn't feel a thing- though since then I have had very bloody urine and a good amount of pain/discomfort from it--- I will have it removed after I give birth and they they will decide how to treat the stones.
I hope you feel better- not sure if this helped or not- hopefully others will have more "manly" answers for you :)
A stent is used to prevent a stone or stones from entering into the ureter (where most of the pain occurs) while allowing urine to pass. It does not remove the stone. This is typically done with a procedure called lithotripsy (breaking up the stone or stones using shock waves). You will be put under for this procedure. Pain afterwards is normal for a couple of days. The stent will remain in place until the stone remnants are small enough to pass on their own. Then it is removed with a quick visit to the urologists. Hope all goes well for you!

Hi there!
How big are the stones?
If they are small you can flush them out drinking green coconut water one glass every hour if they are the size of rice grain or lentil you can flush it out, do not eat tomatoes or nuts, if you can't get the green coconuts water then drink distilled water, do not drink water from the faucet, regardless of the filter you use.
Good luck!
