I have just started Day 1 of Chantix.:) One thing I have noticed is when I think about have a cig, I have this inner feeling/battle (for want of a better words) of I do want the cig then the next second I think I don't. I am smoking during this first week then on day 8 no more. :) I have a couple of friends that is using Chantix and they say it is working for them. So I am feeling positive about this. It is nice to know I am not alone in this!!! Good luck to everyone that is quitting!!!

You are definitely not alone on this. If you’re anything like me after day four you will notice that your smokes aren’t doing the job they used to. It was really kind of weird. I tasted them in a different way and towards the end of the first week I only smoked a few of them because I was allowed to. I’m on day four of my quit week. Best of luck to you!! You can do it!!:)

Marguerite J,
Hi! And welcome to you!! It really thrills me when a new quitter joins us here.

I quit using Chantix over 6 months ago. It is the only thing that has ever gotten me to stop for even one day!! I smoked as normal for the first week. On about day 5 I decided to try cutting back. It worked!! Then came day 8, my quit day. I chickened out. I smoked 8 cigarettes that day. Got up on day 9 and it was then that I decided I wasn't going to smoke that day. Got up out of bed and laid right back down on the sofa!! I stayed there the entire day!! After that I knew I could do it. I was so scared that I would fail once again. But I made it!! It was easier than I thought it would be. But without the Chantix I would never have done it. I have no willpower. The Chantix gave it to me. I kept a positive attitude and had lots of people cheering me on.....my family.
You are going to become a quitter very soon. It is the best decision you could ever make for yourself. You will soon be able to inhale deeply without coughing. It feels wonderful!!
Again, welcome and keep us posted as to your progress!!

Hi Marguerite and welcome, fellow Floridian!! I used to live in Tampa, so I know right you are....welcome to the Quitters Club. I am one week and four days into my quit, and doing great. I've had my ups and downs, but only in that first week. I cried some, it was scary this big change in my life, but I had a smile on my face, and hope in my heart, and so far so good. I'm a non-smoker!! I just got back from a long jog, and I had to laugh, okay, it wasn't that long, it was more walking briskly than anything. But I swear, I had so much air in my lungs, that I ran so hard and pulled muscles in both of my thighs!! I used to quit jogging after I ran out of breath, but I guess my legs need a little conditioning!!

Anyways, this board is a great inspiration, with all the troopers on here, MeMaw, Deb, Kevin, Tampaquit, Traveller - they will be your best friends during this transition time in your life. We've all been thru it or are going thru it with you, so keep coming back and letting us know how you're doing.

It's one day at a time, just like the TV show! Good luck and welcome!!

Thanks Memaw and Mango - I didn't hurt myself too bad, pulling a muscle, but climbing 3 flights of stairs was no picnic. It felt great to be out there and filling my lungs with the good stuff for a change.

Okay - I'm not quite 2 weeks, will be 2 weeks on Friday, but it feels like forever!! And it's great!! I am down to taking one pill a day, and haven't even taken one today, and don't feel I really need it. I might just go ahead and wean myself off slowly. We'll see....

Marguerite - I'm on the East Coast of Florida near Cocoa Beach....Surf's up dude.....

Skimmer,
I've been there and it is beautiful!! Hubby and I moved here to Florida back in 2001 and the only part of Florida I haven't been to yet is Miami. When we went to Key West we were within a few miles of Miami but didn't go there.

I LOVE Chantix - and thank the Lord every day that my doctor suggested it. I smoked for 33 years and was up to 2 packs per day and tried quitting hundreds of times. I took the pills as prescribed and stopped smoking on the 7th day and cannot believe how easy it is to get through the day without craving a cigarette. Hours and hours go by without even thinking about it. The best money I have EVER, EVER spent on anything!

Welcome babysweetzoe,
Glad you could join here!!!
I see we've go another satisfied Chantix user!!
How long have you been quit? Have you had any of the side effects?
I too had to pay for the prescription. My ins. didn't cover it. But I would do it again!! When I quit I was paying about $3.00 a pack. I have saved $612.59!!!
Amazing!!
Good Luck to you!!!! Please keep posting and let us know how you are doing in your quit!

I am also using the Chantix and it has worked well for me. I tried to used the patches but they just made me itch, LOL, and I still wanted to smoke. I actually went 2 weeks prior to quitting with the Chantix. I am on day 3 of being smoke free:) The last couple of days prior to quitting, I only smoked a few cigerattes each day and only about half the cigeratte at that. (i was a pack a day smoker, more when I drank) I guess since we are not getting the dopamine levels we were used to, the appeal was lost. The actual "ritual" of smoking is what is hard for me, but getting easier every day. Good Luck to You!

welcome and congrats on becoming a non smoker. With Chantix I didn't have the nicotine cravings and can't believe I haven't smoked for over a month now. I really thought I would never quit smoking and have to live with all the medical problems from smoking. The people on this board helped and encouraged me in the beginning with dealing with the side effects.

Thank you so much....I am so pumped over this new drug and have great expectations. I have a friend that took it for 3 weeks and was smoke free! Has been for three months now and she said the strange part was, she doesn't crave them anymore or have dreams about smoking anymore!

Help! I'm on day 8 and haven't felt many of the 'good' side effects. I am remembering having alot more dreams and have a bit of nausea now and then. I've been reading alot of the others posts and am feeling more nervous about quitting. I was supposed to quit today but woke up in a panic.

Are you still enjoying the cigerattes though? For me, after about day 8-10, they just did not taste good anymore

Dindia

Not so much. I have cut back but I did some of that before hearing about Chantix. I guess smoking isn't tasting as good but the urge is still certainly there.

Dindia,

I am almost done with day 3 with no smokes. I truely believe if "I" can quit smoking anyone can. I did not smoke as much as some on this board, about a pack a day, sometimes more, but I truely enjoyed smoking. I am still stressing over it some, about being a non-smoker that is, but I have faith I can do this. I have already saved over 35.00. Everytime I would buy a pack of smokes at 5.00 a pack, I would usually get a soda or something else just because. I am going to get a pedicure this weekend just to treat myself:) Maybe after I have been smoke free for 6 months I can go get botox or something, LOL.

I will have to see how tomorrow goes. It will be day 9. I really want to quit. I have the mindset but not the willpower. That's where I'm hoping the Chantix will help.

You can do this. Have lots of gum or other healthy alternatives carrotts, celery sticks, chocoalte, (one of my favorites although not so healthy), handy. You will know which day is right for you to quit. It might not be tomorrow but if it is,good luck. If not, then don't stress over it, you will know when it's your time to quit, I did and I never thought I could do this.

don't worry about cravings right now. You're allowed to smoke the first 2 weeks. You'll find that after the drug gets in your system you just won't smoke anymore. You just won't want to. It really is amazing. I smoked a few into the 3rd week even and then just put them down and forgot about them.
