I need a quick answer if anyone can help me. I started my period today and planned to start the pill. It needs to be taken today as it is the first day of my period. I had been on Vitex herbal tincture to help hormone things and i know that it cant be taken at the same time as the pill but i took it this morning.
If i take the pill now, after taking the tincture this morning will that effect me in anyway?
If i stopped taking the tincture today will it still be in my system in a few days when i have stopped my period and able to have sex again? If it is then i cant have sex until it is out as i dont want it to effect my contraceptiveness....not a word sorry but you know what i mean.

i am not so sure abt herbal tincture but I think it sould be out of the system in 1-2 days .Anyways U take the pills and u can use some alternative method of contraception alongwith the pill for about1.5 weeks after the periods which is the most fertile time (ovulation )

One more question...how much of the tincture are you taking (I'm assuming a tincture is in drop form?) My herbal shop only had it in pill form.....it said to take two 450 mg tablets a day for 8 weeks, then one thereafter. I feel GREAT on it...but I hope I'm not overdosing on it? The shop owner said the amount recommended in a book I was reading (20 mg) was awfully small. Hope he wasn't just trying to make a sale. :confused:

900 mg of Vitex daily isn't too much; I'm taking 1000 mg. daily. I might half the dose my next cycle and see how I do; I've been taking it while transitioning off BCPs.

I was taking 20 drops everyday, which isnt a huge amount. But it was enough for my symptoms - bad pms before and after period. Vitex will reduce hte effectivness of the pill, so you wont be covered for pregnancy. Its kinda like st johns wort in that sense. Its silly as i was taking vitex possibly because of the effect of the pill. But i want to be on it so il see how it goes.
I really thought the vitex was very good. My doctor was no help what so ever about my symptoms so i went to a herbalist and they gave me this. Its a shame it effects the pill. Though the pill is sposed to do the same as vitex but in a more unnatural way.

Oh good!...thanks cln...you have been so helpful. I love Vitex and plan to continue. Thank God something is finally working! Most doctors are idiots.
