Hello,
I am 27, male and in pretty good shape physically. I have had intense anxiety and insomnia for months and finally went to the Doctor. He counseled me for a bit and then prescribed me 2 things.
I have been on .5 MG tabs of Clonazepam 4 times per day for about 10 days to control my panic attacks and also allow me to sleep. I've also been prescribed paxil 10mg which I have been taking once per day. I was instructed to take an additional tab of Clon if I felt a panic attack coming on which I have only done twice.
I'm not worried about the Paxil. The Clonazepam however, I think, is making my eyes and the area around my eyes a bit yellow. The yellowness is scarecely noticible in my eyes but is more pronounced on the skin just beneath. I just noticed this today. I am not ready to blow the siren and run to the emergency room just yet. But it does have me a bit concerned. I have had no other serious symptoms... no shuffling walk, disorientation... generally I think this short term med is controlling my problem.
If anyone has anything to say about the yellowness I would be much appreciative.
Signed,
Anxious about my Anxiety meds.

You need to speak to your doctor as soon as possible.
I have to give my son Clonazepam when necessary (as I do not want to place my son in an institution.)
However, his eyelids become extremely heavy.
If he is given more than 2 mg in a 24 hour period he becomes violent.
Previously his doctor wanted to give him Clonazepam daily but I fought for them to use another drug as he was having too many side effects.
Research on line and see the side effects of this medication.

Anytime you develop yellow eyes see a doctor immediately.

Thank you guys for your input.
I have done a great deal of online research about the side effects of Benzos... there is some with regard to a yellowing around the eyes. I was just wondering to what degree do I need to be alarmed. I have a Dr. Apt on Thursday AM... aside from the light jaundice I really feel just fine.
Anyone who knows anything additional about eye yellowing or specifically the area under the eye with regard to the benzodiazepine class of drugs? Valium, Atavan, Xanax... etc.
Thanks again guys... if I start to get any worse or have any more sypmtoms I'm going to seek help.

How do you know if its light jaundice or something severe? Something is wrong with your liver and you do not want to mess with your liver. Call your doctor immediately in the morning and tell him/her what your symptoms are.

Thank you all again for what you had to say.
The jaundice waned in about 36 hours upon discontinuence of the clonazepam.
I just got home from the Doctor and he said this side effect wasn't common but did occur rarely. He also mentioned that I may have a liver disease that causes light jaundice when ever my body is under stress (flu, new meds, stress, etc). It had a French name that I was dumb enough not to write down. I'll call back and then read about it until my eyes cross...
Either way, he agreed with me and you and... well everyone :) That jaundice has few benign explanations and a litany of malignant ones, but if I had one of those I would still be yellow.
Thanks again so much for taking the time to respond and caring enough to read boards like these.

Did he give you any medication to help your liver? You should be taking either medication or supplements to help fix your liver.
