View Full Version : Pain Med Question

I guess from what I have seen my dads pain medications are still not to a extreme level. They are high, he takes 70 mg ER Oxy every 12 hours and then 1-4 5mg quick acting Oxy every 3 to 4 hours for break thru pain.

The problem I am having is his mind seems to be slipping. We have seen changes in him, both in personality and in his handling of things. Now in the last couple days he is starting to talk about cats. It started a couple days ago when he asked if we had a cat; we don't. He said he was sleeping and felt the cat lay down by his face and start purring. Then later he said he felt the cat jump up in his lap, turn and lay down.

Today he told me we now have two cats. I don't know if this is a reaction to his pain medication or not.

It could definately be a reaction to the pain meds, especially if this only happened after he started taking them. Also, and I am very sorry but I can't remember if he has liver involvement, if he does have mets to the liver he may have a build up of ammonia in his blood. You should contact his doctor or chemo nurse and tell them about this. They may need to change up some of his meds or something. Good luck and as always you are all in my prayers.

Thank you, I will let them know for sure. We go in for chemo number 4 tomorrow.

Yes he has liver mets, the last ct showed it as 6cm. He also has spread to the hip bones and one hip muscle. Any treatments they are doing at this time is just to give some longevity to his life. They have made it clear to us many times he is not going to be cured of this. He did not even make four years from the first round.

I guess I should be thankful for those four years and any time I get from now to the end.

Thank you again,
Natural Peace
