That seems too long to be in that much pain to where you are still needing pain killers. I had one and I was hurting for a couple days, then after that just felt sore. I would call your Dentist to make sure you dont have an infection or any damage to the nerve. Kimspikedhair 03-06-2007, 08:21 PM Hi, I had a root canal done exactly 1 week ago today, and I was in SEVERE pain after having the root canal done, and I was still in pain a few days afterwards, (this has happend to me now 3 times, 3 failed root canals). I ended up getting the tooth pulled last Friday because I couldn't stand the pain anymore. My Oral Surgeon said that he probably missed a canal. My past dentist (before this dentist) who also failed 2 root canals on me, my oral surgeon said (after pulling out the tooth) that he didn't even do the root canal right. I learned my lesson to NOT have a regular dentist do a root canal, my Oral Surgeon told me to go and see a Endodontist (one who specializes in root canals). But I only have a few teeth left, so if I do indeed get another toothache (God forbid) than I will just have ALL of my teeth pulled and get dentures, I can't stand toothaches and failed root canals. I did have a great dentist who I had seen for many years, but I had to switch dentists because he stopped taking my Insurance, well he has done a few root canals on me because of toothaches and right after the root canal was done (after the 1st visit) my toothache pain went completely away. So I guess there are some general dentists out there who do root canals right. Kim Titchou 03-06-2007, 09:02 PM I second the endodontist suggestion. THat's the only person who I would let do a root canal on me. Call your dentist. You should not be in pain at all at this point...sore or tender maybe but not pain. lady66 03-07-2007, 01:40 AM i gave him a call today and he give me more pain meds and some anitboictcs. when he put the filling in i think he put too much bc the tooth is hitting my top tooth pretty hard, i am going back on tuesday to get another root canal so i am going to ask him about shaving the tooth down, he had to do that before to another tooth bc it was hitting to heavy on the other teeth. jackstersmom 03-10-2007, 09:13 PM Your teeth are probably hitting pretty hard because the tooth that had the root canal is inflamed. That causes the tooth to feel higher than it should. What you need to do is take anti-inflammatories (Advil, Ibuprofen) 600mg and the pain meds with it if needed. It can take a lot longer than a week for a tooth to totally settle down after a root canal. Every tooth is different. |
