View Full Version : Discoloured Veneers...

Hi there,

New to this forum but was wondering if anyone could help....

I first got 5 veneers on my front teeth when I was about 13 years old as I had bright white patches on my teeth (cant remember why?!). Anyway, my teeth have never been white but they weren't that yellow either.

Anyway, I had to get these veneers replaced 3 years ago when I was 23 and they were a slightly darker shade against my crown but it wasn't that noticable. Over the last three years they have discoloured quite badly and are now very yellow. My dentist blames this on me smoking which is fair enough but my last veneers didn't discolour at all and I had them for 10 years and I smoked back then also.

Does anyone know if there may be a cheaper type of veneers that my dentist could of used ? Or if you can bleach veneers rather than getting them all replaced as its quite expensive ?

Thanks for any help.

there are porcelain or ceramic veneers made in a lab that are like false fingernails for your teeth. Considering your age when they were done first and the discoloration problem, you probably have composite veneers which are done by the dentist using a resin material that, unlike porcelain, will discolor. The need to have them redone periodically is one drawback of using the composite material. also, they discolored faster the last time because they were darker to begin with. The only way to fix the problem for good will be porcelain or ceramic veneers that are costly and require a minimal amount of tooth removal.
