If one is dx with remitting/relapsing MS, can the symptoms last 6-8 months? Everything I have read says it generally lasts 24-48 hours? Just curious.

We are new to this as well. But my husband has the remitting/relapsing sort and his relapses usually last several months.... not sure how you'd even notice if symptoms only lasted 24-48 hours. You'd probably just think you were getting the flu or something.

Actually, just found that it varies, but the average is 4-6 weeks for relapses.

I guess there are exceptions to every rule.
I have relapsing remitting, but there is a remnant of my very first MS attack, now going on a year. I have a "patch" of numb skin on my left oustide thigh (how sad it wasn't dead center of the muscle on the front of the leg; I'd be doing my Avonex injections there all the time as I would not be able to feel them!).
Most of my other relapsing remittings are just 24-36 hours with me and then they go away on their own.
This disease dosen't make a lot of sense, does it???

No, it really doesn't make sense....I don't see how they could last only 24-48 hours and then go away. Glad for your sake that it does. My legs have been weakened/stiff now for 8 months. They are not sure if it is MS or my buldging disc in my neck that is causing this. Thanks for responding to my entry. Does anyone know if there is a "mentoring" program within the National MS Society? It sure would be nice to have someone to talk (in person)to that has experienced all of this.

I don't know if there is a MS Society mentoring program or not. I am on Avonex and it has a mentoring program available. I have not used it.

Actually, the attack has to last at least 48 hurs for a doctor to officially say it's a relapse. Otherwise it's just symptomology... And maybe the attack lasted a shorter time than 6-8 months? Could it just be resideual effects? Sometimes (MOST times) an attack leaves a new everyday symptom...
