I knew this day would come...just hoping later rather than sooner...as in tomorrow. My drug of choice is vicodin was addicted for a period of a little over 3 months...wds cold turkey in November. I'm having major dental work tomorrow and don't know what to do. I am a HUGE baby when it comes to pain, so not taking the pain meds is NOT an option. What can they give other than vics that I should ask for? Any advice is appreciated...I'm sweating bullets right now.

Hey Aug. Good to see you and glad that you posted. This is a dilemma. Does your dentist know about the problems that you have faced with opiates? Well, here is how I feel about this. Pain meds will prob be something that you will need after having the surgery. If you must get this filled….can you have your husband get it filled and be in charge of the script? Could ask for percocet.
Or tylonal with codine but not any acetaminophen and hydrocodone like: Anexsia, Anolor DH5, Bancap HC, Dolacet, Lorcet 10/650, Lortab, Norco, T-Gesic, Vicodin, Zydone. Good luck. And ask for nitrious while you are being treated to calm you down.

Yes, she knows, but she's going to have RX something for the pain and it's going to be narcotic and I'm going to need to take it. I just hope it isn't vic...I guess asking for percocet is equally as addicting...I just don't ever want vics...too many BAD memories. Oh, and yes, my hubby will be in charge of the meds and when my pain is livable, he will be disposing of them. I cannot have them just laying around the house because I know I will take them...period. Ugh.

Thanks for the suggestions...I know I'm being superstitious, but for whatever reason, I seem to think that I'll be fine as long as she doesn't give me vics...heck, give me oxycotin...but, just no vics! LOL. Oh, and yes, she'll be giving me the gas...extra doses...I don't do well with dental issues period.

I'm just so stressed about it and need to just chill...I knew I had to face this one day, but was hoping it would be after a few years have passed.

Hello Augirl I have been meaning to post to you for months now and finally decided to do it...

Okay, here is what I have to say, you were addicted to vicadin, and you say in a lot of your post that you can never have them again, but will be willing to try any other narcotic or percocet might be an option. I JUST want to say that percocet is even better, stronger and more addicting than vicadin. I have noticed no one has ever pointed this out to you so that is why I am mentioning it. Pain meds are pain meds when your an addict, i will take anything, given vicadin, I will take it and abuse it, norco, I will take it and abuse it, percocet, bring it on, oxycontin, bring it on EVEN BETTER, morphine bring it on, methadone, bring it on, ( never had that but i am sure i would like it) addiction does not always have a pill prefrence, its all the same. if your given percocet you will LOVE them even more than vicadin cuz there STRONGER and the high last longer. so what I am getting to is that its not just vicadin you have to be careful with, ITS ALL OF THE ABOVE...... We love them all........ so if your Dr today gives you percocet, you will be in heaven with your pills once again vicadin is nothing special there all the same, so just be careful and I wanted to bring this to your attention since I am pretty sure you have never tried anything but vicadin, and you mention all the time you can NEVER have vicadin again, but you CAN try something else narcotic. in my experience and I have a lot, its all the same baby and you will be hooked again once you feel that euphoria. good luck at the dentist and I hope you take what I am saying to heart because its true unfortantely.... see if the Dr can giver you an anti narcotic, even if its tramadol because tram DOES not give you that buzz us addicts crave......

I made it through major dental surgery - full anesthesia and a bone transplant where they cut and transplanted a block of bone from my jaw -with nothing but Advil even though I was in serious pain on and off for over a month.

It's all about your state of mind. If you convince yourself you need it, you will take it, and a month of pain would have gotten me hooked on Vicodin no doubt. I am very grateful I did not go down that path at all.
