Hi !! My name is Tres and i am new to this board.........I have had hep c for about 4 years now.........I work a physical job and cant afford to miss work so I have chosen not to do treatment at this time, not even noting the fact that I have no medical insurance........I have been taking milk thistle, but have recently read f this new herbal treatment called LIV.52.has anyone heard of this or had any experpience with this supplement. thank you for any information you can provide for me. I do have a gastro doctor i see who tests my functions every once in a while and they have been ok...I also have recently been diagnosed with barretts esophageul and have endoscopys done, but this is very costly and i stil owe some money for my last visit, so I am apprehensive to schedule another visit to inquire about this supplement.

thanks Tres

I've read about Liv 52 recently and it's very positive. I understand it's been around for 50 years and many tests seem to prove its effective. I've been taking SAMe (400mg) each morning and I also use a Liver Formula which contains milk thistle and 8 other ingredients all known to be good for the liver. I also do a week each month a mild liver cleanse which is lemon juice, aloe vera herbal detoxifying formula (has ten ingredients), liquid garlic extract and liquid milk thistle. I also occasionally juice using dandellions, beets and carrots.

I know of no peer reviewed studies of the ingredients in liv 52, but there may be some.
Of the supplements sometimes used for liver health, same and silybin or silimarin (milk thistle) are among those (I'd add lecithin ) with the most substantial research evidence to give some confidence that they are of real, measurable value to the liver. I take them.

(by the way, some of the best, most replicated, evidence for nutrient/liver health correlation is for coffee. a very powerful liver protectant, at least according to the data.)

However, it is important to remember that although these may help the liver, and for these few supplements listed here there is limited downside risk, nonetheless, they will NOT attack the virus itself. and, most of the evidence of liver protection comes from research into alcohol or toxin damage, not active viral infection. So, although there is value here, and as I said, i take these particular supplements, those who think this approach can 'cure' hep c are in for disappointment.

Also look into Bupleurum Liver Cleanse which has 15 ingredients including Milk Thistle. Another product is Schizandra. I agree with the importance of Lecithin and take it almost everyday.

Just what does a Liver Cleanse do for the liver? Is Liv52 a supplement for the liver that helps it to work better? I know that Milk Thistle isn't a cure but helps the liver to do it's job properly with the Hep C present. Does any of this interfere with the Meds you may take for the Hep C? You don't want to have to many supplements in your liver that could possibly affect the Meds or virus in a negative way. What does your doctor say about all this you do or does he know you are taking supplements? Wants to know. Joyce

Over 300 experiments and clincal studies have been done which strongly indicates its beneficial for the liver. It the most widely used liver product in the world. It contains 7 herbs known to benefit the liver. I'm not on any medication, only visit doctor annually for blood tests so I've never mentioned supplements. I don't know if this product would interfere with medication and doubt a Doctor would. I don't take Liv52 but take another one for the liver and I do a liver flush at least 10 days a month which includes Milk Thistle. I also juice on occassion using beetroot & dandellion both known to be excellent for the liver. If you feel uneasy about any Liver product/formula then you may consider juicing which is very healthy. To the beetroot & dandellion you could add carrots and apples for taste. If you would like the mild liver flush formula let me know. You could do both and avoid over the counter formulas.
