Well my experience...I get a sharp pulsating pain, feels like a vein or something, spasming. It goes in like 30 second intervals. Sounds weird but hitting the side where the pain is helps. Light hurts, you have to squint but it still doesn't help, but you have to. I have had them since I was a child. I used get nauseas...but that only occasionaly happens now. Or maybe I should say the headaches are less frequent. They used to think I had a brain tumor or something, but that was like in the early eighties. Now I get them maybe 1 every month or 2 but they last alot longer...sucks.

A headache is only one symptom of a migraine, and there may not be an actual headache at all. Everyone I know who gets migraines has at least one or two of the following: light sensitivity (some extreme), noise intolerance, nausea, headache, usually worse on one side of the head, dizziness or vertigo or loss of balance. A headache is a symptom, of tension, high blood pressure, heatstroke, dehydration, high fever, neck misalignment or any combination.

When I have a headache, it hurts on my forehead and pretty much stays there and isn't horrible. When I have a migraine, it starts in my neck and ends on one side or the other of my head and is a sharp, stabbing pain that will not go away on it's own. I am sensitive to light, sound, smells, movement. I often vomit but always have nausea even if I don't vomit. The pain will not let up without meds. It can last anywhere from 12-72 hours.

A headache is only one symptom of a migraine, and there may not be an actual headache at all. That happens to me. When I get a migraine I lose my peripheral vision and I get dancing spots and can't focus my eyes. I always get nauseaus and vomit. I can't tolerate light or noise. When I get a headache with it it feels as though my eye is going to explode, but I don't always get that (which is a blessing). Advil does nothing for the pain. When I get a regular headache, it's an annoyance, but usually advil or something helps.

Hi I have silent migraines. . .i.e. no actual head pain, just pressure all over scalp, jumpy or pixelated vision, nausea, ringing in the ears, dizziness, stiff neck and very often follwed by an attack of IBS. When I get a headache I get pain in my head that can be controlled with paracetomol.
Hope this helps.

I've only had a migraine once, and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy! I had close the curtains and blinds, turn on a noise filter and go to bed. I couldn't tolerate light or any noise. The filter was because my husband was watching TV in the next room. Then there was the nausea. Everytime I took a pain releiver I threw up. And the Pain, Oh the Pain! It's kind of like the difference between a cold and the flu. When you have a migraine, you know it's not just a headache.
