My fioncee was diagnosed at the age of two with FSGS(chronic kidney failure), and recently we have decided to start trying to have kids. We have stopped using protection and still nothing. I was wondering is there anyone out there that is experiencing this too? Any measures known that I should take?

Depending on what was causing the kidney failure can be reason for trouble conceiving. How long have you been trying? Are the kidney problems due to anatomical deformities (one kidney, fused kidne, etc.). There can be scarring on the kidney that makes the cervix hard and thus "unripe" for fertilization. If you have been trying for at least 2 years consult a fertility specialist and they can do an internal sonogram, HSG or other tests to see if there is a problem. Many times kidneys that have anomalies are present, gynecological anomalies are also present - septate uterus, etc but this does not mean they are not correctal problems.

Good luck and happy posting!

I was diagnosed with this at the age of 9. I was able to have 3 kids. I'm not sure if it effects men differently...I don't think so.
Talk to his doctor and yours about this.

Alliejazz,

I really do appreciate what u have told me.. It makes me feel a whole lot better.:) I am just worried now on how to bring this up to his doctor. I get so nervous talkin to other people in person when its dealing with something like pregnancy or periods...any tips u know of or should i just get straight to the point? Thanks again.

JJ first of all, I apologize in my first post for some reason I thought your fiancee was the female - this is what happens when you reply to posts at the end of the day. But 5 1/2 months is really not that long to TTC. First off if you are coming off bc you need to let YOUR body get ready as much as he does. Second if his mom is pressuring him not to do it this can effect your results. I agree with Allie that you go to the doc with him next time but alas due to privacy they may not answer anything until you are actually married. Also the more you learn about his condition and show you understand and care, may reduce his stress and his ability to make "prime" candidates for fertilization.

Good luck and hope to see you on the pregnancy boards by year end.
