I'm bp II as well, but I have more hypomanias than depressions and more mixed episodes than pure hypomania so I think it depends on the individual person. Granted, I'm seventeen so it could have something to do with my age for all I know. :S As for hallucinations, I've never experienced those. My hypomania usually consists of being super-hyper and talking super-fast and spending waaaay too much seeing as I only have a part-time job... If I'm mixed, I have the irritability and depressed symptoms with a tonne of energy...
Hope this helps,
Paige

I think it can depend a lot on the individual. But the biggest difference between bp1 and bp2 is the severity of the mania and the amount of impairment that it causes.
There are lots of good books out there like "Bipolar for Dummies." They are very informative!

My husband has BPII / ADHD and my daughter is BPI/ADHD. Our doctor says the BP I is more severe in terms of the manic episodes, and I agree. My husband just gets very pumped up about doing things. He is in television advertising and I think almost everyone there either ADHD or BP II. But it is a good thing, as I see it as helping with the creative side and being productive in his work. My daughter on the other hand being BP I is more prone to the wild mood swings, although has been stable for many months now.
So we have all extremes in my house bouncing around:p . The flip side is people love to come to our house because they say we have the best parties!!! :D
Hope this helps.

Hello,
Bipolar 2 does not have clear, distinct episodes of mania and of depression as you see in Bipolar 1. It is more common to have "mixed episodes." I think it is more common to be depressed with occasional periods of hypomania, which are not as severe as a classic mania. Hypomania can present as agitation, irritability, unreasonable anger rather than feelings of elation. You can be very depressed and agitated, short-tempered, etc all at once. Hallucinations sometimes occur in BP1 but not 2. True mania often requires hospitalization until it is brought under control.
Does this help?

Hi;
When I was dx'd a few years ago I got the BP1 label because, and only because, I have hallucinations. I was told you can't have hallucinations and go under the BP2 category... ...I suffer from paranoia, depression, mixed states, hypomania but have never had full mania nor hospitalization.

I had hallucinations and fear last oct for 5 days and not sleeping hardly at all during the entire time. was hospitalized ,treated with Zyprexa ..it brought down the hallucinations. I have never had them before nor after that.
I must have Bipolar 1 then because of the hallucinations... I saw many colors during those 5 days. wow.
I dont have irritibility, anger, and am very calm in dealing with people but have anxiety... am taking Wellbrutrin,100mg,Tegretol 100 mg...now instead of Zyprexa. My hair was falling out and gaining weight so I changed to these new medications. now.
thank you,,,Caren

Do you have any of the other symptoms like talking really fast, , accelerated thoughts, decreased inhibitions, grandiose or paranoid delusions, spending sprees, increased activity and decreased need for sleep, risky or bizaare behaviors??
Were they visual hallucinations (rather than hearing things)??

HI My hallucinations started with a scene of the rapturel or judgement day with people going up a staircase and down to hell for the other line. I saw many angels flying and assisting in this scene this happened at 3 am. for 3 days then I saw bad people blocking my bedroom door with piles of things, furniture. so I left my home at 4 am with no shoes on and drove to my daughters home . I was very paranoid and fearful.a war happenend in my mind on the ceiling of her home and lotsof blue appeared on walls and she couldnt see what I did.She went out to talk with a pastor and he told her to get me to the hospital...Instead I went to my other daughters home and stayed there for 3 days. The Hallucinations became more violent and I thought I was going to be killed by warring angels.During this time , I didnt sleep and very little food.My daughter took me to the hosptial and i was given Zyprexa. first sleep returned and I was there for 5 days the zyprexa took away the hallucination.s the P-doc said i was in a Psychosis.( I am a widow so live alone) I have had no more Hall. since I came home from the hospital. my P-doc said the Paxil Iwas taking for depresison for 2 yrs. caused the hallucinations.

continued from above. I was diagnosed in 1991 with bi-polar, and went to my doc. to get medicine.(Lithium.)My doctor didnt give it to me as he said the Lithium destroys ones organs. So I continuted on Anti-depressants for literally years...
I am in my 50s now and have gone untreated for years... Now I take wellbutrin100mg-Tegretol.100mgs.......
it is very important to get the proper treatment. as in my case I developed halluncinations..... which came out of the blue with no warning.
I am just glad that I am ok and didnt get harmed while driving... etc...
thanks for listening. I just hope that you are helped with my story.. so it doesnt happen to you.....
It is 86 degrees here yeah for spring.. Caren

Hello Caren,
Wow! That must have been quite an experience. It sounds like you are definitely BP1. It is a shame you went for such a long time with the wrong medications. I hope you are feeling better and are now episode-free.
Thanks for sharing your story.

yes I am episode free. now. on the right meds... To answer a question asked a few posts back.... I dont have irritibility......or spending sprees.. etc..I do talk fast, now and then. In conversations I go from one topic to another. sometimes people are warn out by listening to too many subjects all at once.I am a Christian also so my values help control my behavior.
