Lately I have been noticing that for about a week before my period I get very severe headaches. Wouldn't say that they are migraines although I do get sensitive to light and nauseous (but no vomitting)...anyway could this be caused by the pill? I have been on Marvelon for alittle over a year and haven't noticed any other adverse effects except now these headaches for the last 4-5 months

Was possibly think about switching to Nuvaring? Guess I will have to go visit my Doc, but any suggestions of what I could try next would be appreciated :D

Yes it could be. The first pill I was on (I can't remember what one though) caused severe migraines the day before my period started. I'm currently on ortho tri cyclen and still get headaches around my period so my doctor just switched me to loestrin FE. We'll see if that helps.

I just went off of Nuvaring after almost three years of migraines every month. They were "mild" migraines but still enough to put me out of commission for a day or two every time I had my period. Skipping periods only made it worse.

I am now debating trying the pill instead. Are there any bc pills that are less likely to cause migraines, or does it vary from person to person?

Yes, they do cause migraines and headaches.
It's trial and error. What works for one person can reek havock on another. It takes your body around 3 months to become adjusted to the pills.

It varies. I was on Ovral and I had the worst headache the day before my period every month. It was miserable. Now mine are more hit and miss when my period comes, I'm currently on ortho tri cyclen and my headaches aren't that bad, but I still get them each month so my doctor wanted to switch me.

When I switched to Yasmin, I started getting severe headaches too! It took me awhile to determine there was a connection with the pill. The minute I stopped taking it, the headaches were gone.

princessandi, i'm on ortho tricyclen lo too, and I get headaches usually right before or the first day of my period. Pretty bad... I feel so sluggish like I don't want to do anything.

Is the loestrin the pill that is supposed to give you 3day periods? I was thinking of trying to switch to that one to try to alleviate my headaches. Let me know what happens when you switch!

Loestrin can cause little to NO period. There is a thread on it in this topic. Check it out.
