Hi everybody. My Dad has been hospitalized for the past week. The doctor was trying to wean him off of the steroids, but everytime he reduces the dosage, we have MAJOR setbacks. The steroids help keep the fluid and swelling down in the remainder of the brain tumor. When the tumor fills up with fluid, it puts pressure on his brain, and he loses control of most of his motor functions. It was so bad, that my Mom had to carry my Dad on her back to take him to the bathroom or to his bed. He couldn't stand or walk on his own, he couldn't feed himself, and he could barely speak. So the doctor admitted him to the hospital and put a drain in his head to get as much fluid out as possible. It helped some, but not as much as we had hoped it would. So the doctor was concerned that maybe the radiation and chemo weren't doing anything, and ordered a CT scan of my Dad's chest and abdomen. Thankfully the spots on his lungs and adrenal glands showed significant reduction in size. They will be moving my Dad to a rehab center in the next day or two, so that he can do PT/OT and hopefully regain some of his strength. Even though it started out to be a bad week, I am thankful to know that the treatments have not been completely in vain.
