This is a long story but I will make it short.

Back in October of 06 I became very jaundice and went into the hospital. My enzymes were almost 1,800. My bilirubin was close to 14. I had a lot work-ups. Originally, my hep C was negative. All my other tests were negative except for my AMA (or something like that) was elevated. My levels are now back to normal. My liver specialist told me today that my repeat hep C test is positve. My liver biopsy dome in November showed moderate to severe scarring, inflammation and etiologies included viral hep, auto-immune or drug-induced hep.

I am having more bloodwork done this week to determine the genotype and to make sure it is not a false positive.

I am not an IV drug user, rarely drink and have only had one partner. We have been together for 20 years. My only risk is that I am a nurse. I try to be careful but no one can be careful 100% of the time.

He said that once the blood work was back they wanted to start interferon that would last for 24 weeks.

Could this be a false positive?

Good luck. I have heard of false postitives. I wonder how he could know how long you will need treatment with out your gen. Did he explain the hep you have to you?

that is what I do not understand. I am a cardiac nurse and admit I so not know as much as I should about hepatitis c. He is saying b/c I presented so acutely back in Oct that he believes 6 months of interferon will eradicate the hep c.

I go for further blood tests today. I am hoping it is a false positive but isn't that rare?
