I am currently on Seroquel 400 mg for my bipolar. I am really thinking about talking to the Dr. about changing meds. I am all of a sudden feeling hung over again. I have trouble waking up in the mornings. If I do not take them before 8 am, I can not get up before 7. Even then I have a horrible headache and feel like I have been drinking all night. The bad part about that is, it makes me tired in about an hour, so when I take it at 8, I am out by 9. It really limits my time and how alert I am. 2 times this week I have not sent my daughter to preschool b/c I could not get myself woken up.

The only thing I hate about changeing meds is, This one does work for the most part during the day. 99% of the time I feel great. I just hate the drunk feeling all the time.

Anyone have any suggestions?

The woman I love started on that before we found out she has bipolar, the doctor added Depakote, and quickly switched to Tegretol. My question would be why not some sort of mood stabilizer? I am no doctor, but that is what I would want a good answer for. I have read alot and there seems to be good reason to not treat bipolar with just antidepressants. So have a good talk with your doctor, that way you are comfortable with what you are on and it helps you cope and thrive.

Hello TT,

I would suggest talking to your pdoc, explaining the issues you're having. Some people break up the dosage into morning and night, or take part of it at some point during the day. There are ways around this problem of it making you so tired and hung-over feeling.

How is it working other than this?

I still have my ups and downs. I am struggleing with my weight also, so it does not help that. I posted a couple weeks ago about my 52 hour awake period. I let the Dr. know about that and he told me if I felt it comeing on, to increase by another 200mg. I do not feel comfortable doing that though b/c of how it makes me feel. I do have my edgey days where i feel like i am going to snap all day, but I have more good days then bad. Reading this it looks like it is not working, but compated to how I was, this is great. I just wish it was better.

Have you been diagnosed bipolar? I too think you'd do better with a mood stabilizer as your first med, in addition to the seroquel....

Yes, I was diagnosed bipolar 2 about 6 months ago. I have had drs flirt with the idea inthe past, but this is the first time I have been told yes, I have bipolar. I just filled my 6th month of seroquel.

Dam I feel stupid. I have been reading up on bipolar, have to give the book back tonight so reading this one fast, though I have a few on order from Amazon.

Seroquel, I thought was an antidepressant! It is one of those antipsychotics that have been found to work well at stabilizing moods. Supposedly good results with Depakote.

Got to say read up on bipolar and talk to your doctor about the meds.

Having some ups and downs can be normal for all, I am not bipolar and I have ups and downs. The question is, are they for a reason? How do they last, and do they effect your ability to live your life. If you are unsure or worried about those ups and downs, talk about them, talk with your doctor about them. Don't blindly accept them, explore them and be sure you are getting the most out of your treatment and life.
